Writing a bug report?

Thu Apr 07, 2016 12:27 pm
Hi all,

I'd like to report a bug, however before doing so, I'd like to ask a couple of questions here. My issue is in multi-monitor setup with Plasma 5.6.1, Qt 5.6 (on openSUSE LEAP with extra repositories)

1.) I read that most multi-monitor issues should be fixed by now, is this the case? It's a little hard to avoid duplicates in the bug tracker as there are quite a lot of issues there. Or should I nonetheless create an entry and let the devs take care of deciding if it's a duplicate?

2.) I've not yet found out how to reproduce the bug. Sometimes, the setup works OK over a couple of restarts / log-off / switch-session (there's two users on that machine). The symptoms also differ: sometimes when I revert back to my "next-to-each-other" setup (instead of duplicating one monitor) the panels both stay on one monitor, sometimes, they're stacked on top of each other, sometimes one gets lost. Sometimes the panels lose their settings (e.g. task-manager: "Show only windows of this monitor")

3.) I've not yet installed any debug packages - should I ?

4.) What information should I supply with the initial bug report?

Another idea that came to mind: should I try to ask about this on IRC first?
