Disable/Enable monitor with qdbus?

Tue Jan 10, 2017 9:53 am
Hi all, I'm attempting to write a script that will disable my second monitor then enable it again after a short period of time (this is an attempt to create a work around for a multiple monitor bug in Plasma 5).

I'm looking in QDBusViewer and found the org.freedesktop.DisplayManager service, I think I'm close!

The problem is, from here I have no idea how to see what functions etc are available. Is there any place I can find out more about the methods available for the Display Configuration application? Is this something I'll need to go looking in the source to figure out? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Are you using Plasma 5.8.4? If yes, then you should report the bug, instead of working around it.

Thanks for the reply. But with all due respect, you haven't addressed my question and this type of behaviour has been reported by many others already.

My post isn't asking about troubleshooting the multiple monitor issue (which many others have already reported), this is about how to script the process of disabling a monitor then enabling it again. I'm hoping somebody in the KDE developer community will know more about the QDBUS methods for this particular application. Thanks :)

With all due respect, you haven't stated which problems you are trying to work around.

Btw, DisplayManager has nothing to do with screens; it is the login manager (sddm, kdm, etc.) You can use xrandr to disable screens.
