If you type the name of the app, does it show up in the search results?
Apps which show up in launchers should have a shortcut file (usually named e.g. AppName.desktop) which declares details such as the name of the app and how to run it. Some of them include directives to show or hide in different environments (though I think those may still show up if you search for them). If there isn't already a shortcut file for the app or for whatever reason it doesn't want to show up in the launcher, you can try creating your own shortcut to the app by navigating to ~/.local/share/applications, right-click -> Create New -> Link to Application, and then fill out the details. (if this is a terminal app, you may need to go into the Advanced settings and enable the Run in Terminal option)
