License for networkmanager-qt

Mon Mar 14, 2022 8:37 pm
Hi,

I've been asked to decode the KDE framework licensing for a commercial product now in development. I am not a lawyer.

I'm trying to understand the licensing for the networkmanager-qt framework found at https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/networkmanager-qt

In the LICENSES directory there are copies of license templates for
  • BSC 3-Clause
  • Creative Commons Legal Code, CC0 1.0 Universal
  • GPL V2
  • GPL V3
  • LGPL V2.1
  • LGPL V3
  • KDE Accepted GPL
  • KDE Accepted LGPL

And in the individual source code files the headers include:
Code: Select all
SPDX-FileCopyrightText: 2014 Jan Grulich <jgrulich@redhat.com>
SPDX-License-Identifier: LGPL-2.1-only OR LGPL-3.0-only OR LicenseRef-KDE-Accepted-LGPL

Finally, https://develop.kde.org/products/frameworks/ has the text
Frameworks are developed under the proven KDE governance model with a predictable release schedule, a clear and vendor neutral contributor process, open governance and flexible LGPL or MIT licensing.

So can we conclude that the networkmanager-qt framework is available under the LGPL-2.1 or LGPL-3.0 license?

What exactly is the the "KDE Accepted LGPL" license?

If anyone has any suggestions as to where else I should seek insight, please let me know.

You should write to the KDE e.V. board for this kind of question, the forum is meant for user support only: kde-ev-board@kde.org

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...
