Sorry to bring up another case of PyKDE4 being buggy but I haven't
got any leads on this bug.

When I call KTextEdit.setText("Text") in python the edit field remains
blank. Does anyone have a suspicion as to why?

I seem to get allot of this kind of thing, maybe I should get some
API bug repellent from the dairy

Just to be sure. Are you really calling KTextEdit.setText("Text") or x.setText("Text") where x is an instance from KTextEdit?

Yes, I'm using x for instance.
I have tried x.setPlainText("text") as well and no luck there either

Just ran the first and most obvious test that I _should_ have done.
Using a piece of hard-coded, constant text rather than reading of a wrapper on
QFile that I've made.

Sorry for wasting time and server capacity.

No need to apologize :)

Can you please edit your first post to add [SOLVED] to it's title. Thanks in advance.
