About system dialog  Topic is solved

Sat Feb 13, 2010 1:20 am
Hi currently i'm creating this:
Image
And having some issues both technical and non technical.

The non technical issues are below:
- Branding. I believe some distro will put their image or text regarding the distro. I'm not sure if my initial design is enough or not.
- About dialog content. enough or not
- Is it possible to merge with kde trunk?

Technical issues are below:
- Where should i put distro spesific information like logo or text, so they can replace the default one easily?
- How to get kernel information easily?
- How to get distro information easily?

Anyone with better design, feel free to inform me.

Thanks,
Reza

Decisions regarding whether or not it could be merged should be done on kde-core-devel, however the code should be mostly complete ideally at that stage.

You do not need to do anything with regards to allowing distributions to brand it, they will handle that. Just don't make it too hard.

For memory information, there is a class currently in KDEReview which could help.

Why not just enhance the kinfocenter start page?

The apps just to display light info about the user's kde and linux distro.
And for full information one can click 'info center' button.

here is a nice mockup from Tomasz Dudzik

- You can get kernel info with the "uname" command or function (on Linux and other unixes). On Mac or Windows you can use information from Qt ( http://doc.trolltech.com/4.6/qsysinfo.html )
- You can get distro info (sometimes) with LSB release (lsb_release)

Thanks for all replies.

only the distro info left.
as for my distro lsb_release just return n/a.
i'm thinking to put distro.png and distro.version inside a directory, which is lookup-able using this code:
Code: Select all
QString distroImage = KStandardDirs::locate("data",  "aboutsystem/distro.png");
