Hi everybody,
I am facing a little problem. I would like to take a screenshot of a given window (not of the entire screen) even if this window is minimized. This kind of task has not been completelly solved by the TaskManager widget. When hovering with the mouse on a given tab it shows a preview of the selected window as it was the last time it was visible. I did not looked directly at the code but this is the actual behaviour. I was wondering if there is a way to solve this problem or there is some issue that makes it unfeasible. Thank you in advance. Bye bye |

What is the use-case for this?
Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.

For me the preview is updated, even if the window is minimized. In System Settings -> Desktop Effects -> Advanced, try different settings for "Keep window thumbnails" - I have "Always (Breaks minimization)". (Which is a bit strange, not sure it means minimized windows though; with the other two options the thumbnail is not updated. It sounds like it should be the other way around to me.) And as you probably already know, you need composite for it to work. I have no idea how the actual code works though.

@TheBlackCat
No particular purpose. I was just curious about it. @Hans: You are right. Setting "Keep window thumbnails" to "Always (Breaks minimization)" the thumbnail is updated constantly. So what I want to do is feasible but I still have to understand how to do that. It would be nice if someone can point me to the piece of code in the TaskManager widget that contains this feature. I looked for it but with bad luck. I'll continue searching. Thanks for the reply Bye |

I wonder if it isn't actually implemented as a desktop effect, see "Taskbar Thumbnails". But as previously stated, I don't really know.

The retrieval of the thumbnails is done as a Desktop Effect I believe, much like the transparency of the Plasma panel.
