No backend found

Fri Jan 20, 2012 3:38 am
I am using linux mint 12 (Lisa) and have R, wxmaxima, kalgebra, sage and octave installed and running fine on my computer. Problem is that Cantor can't find any of them after installation from the Mint repository. I get a message...

No Backend Found
You could try:
Changing the settings in the config dialog;
Installing packages for one of the following programs:

When I go to the cantor config dialog there are no options avaliable to change any of the settings.

When I type 'cantor' in on the command line I also get this error message...
Object::disconnect: Unexpected null parameter
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked to see if the seperate Cantor packages for those backends are installed?

Thanks for the rapid response bcooksley, any idea what the backends look like? I had no idea that the packages had backends written for Cantor. I'll look in the mean-time.

Thanks for the hint bcooksley, all I had to do was the following....

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/beta

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install cantor && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

... and the correct backends were installed.
