How is Plasma::Extender supposed to work?

Hello, everyone. I'm a newbie here. I want to know how Plasma::Extender is supposed to work.

I read about the API documentation, and can barely figure out that it's something detachable to extend a Plasmoid. However, I want to find some examples to get a better understanding.

I searched through kdeplasma-addons and find no plasmoid is using it. Then I tried the example in http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tut ... gExtenders , but what it does is just create an empty plasmoid on the desktop (or a default icon in a panel). Clicking the plasmoid doesn't seem to make anything happen, either.
(I'm running KDE 4.8 on a amd64 Gentoo Linux)

From these I come to the conclusion that Plasma::Extender is currently buggy and/or rarely used. People seems to be more inclined to "extend" their plasmoid with just Plasma::Dialog. However, out of curiousity I want to understand what it is, at all.

So, could someone show me a working example of Plasma::Extender, or, a screenshot showing how it is supposed to work?

EDIT: oops, I didn't know there's also a board devoted to Plasma questions. Quite sorry for posting in a possibly inappropriate place. But how can I delete my post, anyway?

I would recommend asking about this on the Plasma development mailing list, plasma-devel@kde.org.
