kioslave tutorial and documentation

Thu Mar 01, 2012 7:27 am
Hi all,
I'm quite new to KDE programming (but have some experience with Qt) and I'd like to start experimenting kioslaves, but I cannot find out a better tutorial than the official hello world one (http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/KIO_Slaves/Hello_World). Is there a paper, slideshow, something better to understand slaves and how to develop them?

I would recommend looking at some real world KIO slaves, whose code can be found on KDE source code management infrastructure.

https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/k ... w/kioslave

Thanks for the reply, I am already studying the file kioslave, but it is not clear from the code what is the slave lifecycle. So if there is anywhere a document which explains a little better how slaves are integrated into KDE it will help me very much!

I'm not aware of any documentation. The folks on the KDE Development mailing list (kde-devel@kde.org) may know more however. I suspect this will only be in either the API documentation, or personal knowledge through experience (ie. in someone's head)
