Hi folks!

I've recently been making a new KDE application I'm extra-passionate about, and would like to commission an artist from the Krita community to make a piece of art to promote it on its website and in announcement posts.

The new app is called Kirogi (Korean for undomesticated goose) and is used to control UAVs (drones). I have a very concrete motif in mind, which should be fun and amusing to paint. I'd like a drone carrying a goose, like, as a rough guide, so:

What a lazy bird!

I'm willing to pay 100-150 Euros. If you would like to pitch, please contact me at hein@kde.org with a quote and a couple of examples of your style (I'm looking for hand-drawn and colorful, but I'm open-minded to being convinced of other approaches). A final requirement is to release the artwork under the CC-BY-SA license, and making it in Krita or other free software.

I promise to do my best to promote this application, and extensively use YOUR artwork in doing so, and sing your praises.

To provide an update to anyone listening in, I ended up working with the stunning Asmo-Arael on my app's mascot. They recently did a live video stream of one of the later stages of realizing the painting. It's all come along very nicely and has been a new and fantastic experience for me as well.

Here's a few of the sketches along the way:

I'll post the final painting soon!

I love it! The idea is great to begin with, and the drawings look so lively I can almost picture them animated.

Hi there,

The app idea sounds promising and the final painting is a first class mascot. I'm excited about the project and will be waiting for the updates. Have you announced the release date yet?

Sorry, I got a bit backlogged with $dayjob! i submitted a talk to Akademy 2019 on it however, by then I definitely plan to have it released :)

A little update for you guys :)

My app is still going to take a while to get to its first stable release (life has been crazy busy!), but it's been making good progress, and now has a basic/initial website with more information: https://kirogi.org/

The website of course features the final painting I promised.

You can also see the application icon in the menu header. This was done by Rafael Brandmaier from the KDE VDG, based on further head pose sketches by AsmoArael!
