I have been following the Neon story since it started. I have been using Mint KDE since 2014, and KDE is my DE of choice.
With Mint 18 KDE looming, I was looking at other options. The idea of Neon, with it being always up to date and with no bloat, appealed to me. I was wary of Plasma 5.x and have been disappointed with its stability with other distros. The only feature I really miss is the individual workspace settings facility. I have installed the 5.7.3 User edition as a triple boot with Windows 7, Mint and Neon. I have not had Neon crash or freeze on me once. The only thing that annoyed me was the 90 second delay on reboot, which I found the fix for by installing 'kde-config-systemd' and changing it to 5 seconds. After installing my most used applications, and no other bloat, Neon is only using around 380MB of memory, which is much less than any other KDE distro I have tried. I did get the blank tooltips problem with Gimp, but again found the fix on this forum by unticking 'Apply colors to non-QT applications' in system settings. Neon has been a pleasant surprise for me, working a lot better than I thought it would. I am not a computer expert by any means, only a 'monkey-see-monkey-do' type of person. But I managed to get everything working nevertheless. I look forward to seeing how Neon pans out as new stuff comes down the pipeline. The Neon team have done a great job, and I hope more people will give it a go. I understand the philosophy behind it, and it was just what I was wanting too.
