Hi, a friend bought iMac recently and now asked me how to install a Linux Distribution on it. I chose neon, because Debian's Plasma packages are really outdated, even in sid. I also read that people managed running Linux Mint and other ubuntu derivates on Macs.
Things I already know: - Theres a special efi bootloader for Mac which lets you choose your OS. - Apple provides their own tool for partitioning (bootcamp can be used) - You can boot Livecds with bootcamp Now my questions: Do you tried something similar on a mac and how did it work? And can you install and boot neon on a mac from / to an external drive? Does it make sense to use the wayland git edition, or is it very unstabl? I hope you can help me. Thank you in advice! |

Neon is Ubuntu with updated KDE software. If Ubuntu works on that device, Neon will work on it too.
No, it makes no sense to install unfinished software on a friend's computer if this friend isn't an experienced Linux user. |

Thanks! I will try installing on a second drive, I'll let you know if it works. The wayland edition will be tested in a VM on my notebook.
