OS
Kinda hard to describe but PLEASE bear with me.

As stated in another post I decided to run KDE Neon as a dedicated multimedia centre pushing a 50 inch diagonal Zenith television which has both RGB and HDMI inputs.

It also pushes a Samsung "sound-bar" and associated "wireless and active" sub-whoofer.

I also use a wireless "Gyration airmouse" with associated wireless keyboard.

I discovered "working from across the room while standing" a couple of years ago because it is more convenient when first up and around in the morning, making breakfast, reading newsfeeds, checking weather, listening to music, etc.

Not "having to go to the computer, sit down, open things up, get up go to the kitchen, go back to the computer, go to the kitchen go back to the computer" is GREAT!.

It is a lifestyle changer.

Anyhow, to the point of this post.

Enter the "Dashboard" menu setting.

We have all tried it on the normal computer and many, if not most, people have said "big woop" and went back to one of the other more normal options.

Welllll folks............I'm here to tell you that.... the Dashboard IS MADE FOR.... standing across the room use.

My bros are IMPRESSED when they walk in and the television, which is on the wall, has Neon running, and I casually pick up the "Gyration airmouse" and swing it over to the kicker and the Dashboard flashes.... and I wave the mouse to maybe KMplayer for a music file or maybe Stream tuner for Radio Tenerif and the music starts!

It is just.....freaking COOL!!! :)

To make things easier to "hit" I changed the height of the panel to "two and a half inches" high and doubled the size of the mouse pointer.

And this on a decade and a half old computer! now, yes, it was a state of the art game machine at the time and IS...a silver X-infinity case with blue lights flashing!! :)

As a sidelight, not to mention stuff off the farm but there are some "other social media apps" that are "full screen" with images of music albums, players, etc. if one remembers "Tweet Deck" kind of like that, and when they come over the "next time" to further impress the bros I will run one of those, there is NOTHING like it on a windblows machine and of course nothing like it on a "cable" interface".

And, I have thrown EVERY KIND OF MULTIMEDIA player, video player, audio player, etc. at this thing and KDE Neon just keeps SHOVELING UPDATES onto the machine. :0 :)

I mean, it is a wonder to behold.

Truely, if somebody started "promoting" KDE Neon with the Dashboard as default, and promoted the use of a "remote mouse", maybe a Wii controller...

As a "wallscreen" OS...

I, personally, think that it would attract a LOT OF ATTENTION to the OS.

Just a thought, of little worth.

PPS:

I was going to try out the "Leap Motion" thing, which has been heavily discounted, so that I could kind of do "touch screen", there are Linux drivers for it, but.......

It only has a VERTICAL range of about a foot or little more, and about two foot wide, for a normal wide screen monitor, not the television.
