Hi
I spend the first few months of using a "distro" using "just the stock stuff" to see what happens. VLC is the stock music app that I found with it and it does everything I need, including finding the Jam Classic Bluetooth speaker, one has to go to "configure" and ALSO then go to "audio" to find the speaker but when it is clicked it plays immediately. I...................PERSONALLY prefer Amarok because it is associated with KDE but will stay with VLC for the nonce. woodsmoke |

Clementine's playlist management leaves a lot to be desired, and that's putting it mildly.
![]() If you have a lot of playlists, I'd recommend Quod Libet. I currently can't install Amorok on NEON but YMMV.
Since I installed Neon over Kubuntu backports, I used aptitude (aptitude install amarok) to downgrade 2:2.8.90-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15.10~ppa2 to 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu9. (The former version was from kubuntu backports.) |

My only worry to install "wrong" app is that it might pull "wrong" packages (i.e., plasma 4 or similar) and such a mix will mess the perfect Neon install
![]() I'd prefer Amarok, but I'm not sure if it is fully "Neon compatible" (i.e., fully ported to Plasma 5). |

LOL! Amarok runs just fine in Plasma 5, as do other KDE 4 applications, such as Kmymoney. Sure they may pull in a few libraries but it won't mess a thing with plasma 5

If you want to use a simple music player instead of the bloated programs recommended above, use either:
Deadbeef (GTK2/3): http://deadbeef.sourceforge.net/ or Audacious Qt (currently on beta): http://audacious-media-player.org/ |

Thank you for the recommendation, especially for KDE/Qt - I'd like to avoid GTK in Plasma 5. Ideally, I'd be glad to see something like AIMP in Windows (from functionality perspective) - stable, functional and lightweight. OK, the topic is closed now. |

Well here's a nugget upon which to chew!
![]() I appreciate Dragon Player, and have watched it develop since it was a lil' pink thing, just puffing little puffs! ![]() But, I prefer VLC for a lot of reasons, Amarok for others, etc. Dragon Player always pops when a cd of music is inserted or a dvd of a d/l video or a DVD is inserted and although most times I just click it, many times I want another player and have to close it and then go to open the player of choice. So, I decided to change in settings, the default player to VLC. Nope, didn't take, I changed, the text for the popup, I supposed, etc. After a restart things were stock, with Dragon Player being the default player. Now, yessss..... , there HAS TO BE a script "someplace" to change it. But, in my dotage of being with Linux for so long, I assume that the developers do not do things without a reason so, I'll just leave it. Besides, I've got diving to do! :0 Anyway, it may be that the developers "want" Dragon Player to be the "desired player" so that it can be "tested in the field by a LOT of people. And the way they are shoveling out updates, I can kind of see their point. I am PROBABLY totally wrong on this, or maybe not. Dragon Player actually DOES everything, I just don't like the GUI all that much, but form will follow function, ( to totally mess over an old phrase!) . Not an answer, I'm sure, for your question, but a comment. woodsmoke |

I see your point ![]() ![]() ![]() But functionality wise it is OK, thank you for reminding me about the Dragon Player. |
