Hello,
I just got a new package (among others) installed named "xserver-xorg-video-intel-native-modesetting" along with "xserver-xorg-video-intel-arbiter". I had previously uninstalled the stock intel driver "xserver-xorg-video-intel" to try modesetting but wanted to know if anyone could explain what the first one is here for compared to the others? Regards, Vishal PS: I'm running Neon developer unstable at the moment.

Yes. It seems this is just a dummy package to conflict with the default intel driver so that generic modesetting driver is chosen instead - I was wondering if this was a brand new driver or something, but seems not

Hi ! I created another related thread here : viewtopic.php?f=309&t=150447
I have the feeling (am testing the former Intel X driver to make 100% sure but so far so good) that my KDE X session is massively unstable when using the intel native modesetting driver. SEVERAL times a day, X completely hangs. And before it occurs, some windows behave unconsistently (flicker, are resized without my wanting it, etc.) On the very same PC, I got no X crash at all when using an Nvidia card (although fast seeking in VLC tended to crash with VDPAU but that's a specific and contained problem...) I'm using a Kaby Lake machine (microcode updated) with an Intel HD Graphics 630. The X driver is not very good as performance is also very bad under X (with any DE). It's much better in the wayland sessions of KDE or GNOME. But stability seems to be a distinct (and major issue). Anyone using X + intel native modesetting driver around ? Edit : Oops, I replied this so that the ppl who had subscribed to the bug report would get the notification but I'm sorry as it looks like I'm flooding the forum ![]() |
