Hi
The previous day there was an update and I used the computer tower (not a laptop) for a couple of miscelaneous things and shut it down. Yesterday, without an update, I started the computer and constructed an Impress slide show and had file saves both automatically and manually. I then tried to create a folder on a usb stick into which to move the Presentation ( I always copy over to a usb stick and then to a DVD or external hard drive) and the red warning bar appeared at the top of Dolphin that I did not permissions to make the folder. I attempted to create the folder using sudo konqueror with similar results. I had set the permissions on the Presentation to “read only” because I give the presentations using a Microsoft system which will mess the slides up if given a chance, so I thought that possibly I had changed permissions on the totality of Dolphin in some manner but could not so determine. So, I thought that a restart was in order and a total failure to load occurred. The first screen with KDE Neon symbol and 5.7.95 appeared and then this appeared with white text on a black screen at the top left.
I attempted two more restarts with similar results. Using the esc key at boot produced a menu of things to do to fix the situation, which was a PLEASANT SURPRISE!! ![]() A) I tried repairing the file structure with no results. B) I attempted repairing using dpkg and was presented with three possibilities, KDE Neon, Ubuntu and a previous KDE Neon, both as boot and as safe mode, none produced a result. So, Unless there are suggestions I will do a re-install. BTW I did not lose the Impress File I plugged the hard drive in as a data drive using Kubuntu as the Main OS and copied the file over. Again…………..PLEASANT SURPRISE about the options for repair, the only suggestion that I might make for the FUTURE is that the novice would probably not know to use the ESC key and that some kind of formal instructions might be given in the install screens or on the desktop on first boot. So….any suggestions? woodenjoyingKDENeonsmoke |

Hi!
Thanks for the reply. Yeppers to not finding much similar. It was NOT wireless that was RUNNING...the machine on an ethernet cable. So, yea, I reinstalled, but that is ok, this is all very much beta stuff, kewl, and I really like it, but the devs are serious about it not being quite ready for a production machine yet. But, I think that the day of a production machine will not be too far in the future! ![]() woodsmoke |
