Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 Neon 5.8.2

Tue Oct 25, 2016 8:17 pm
Hi guys,

Installed KDE Neon yesterday and ran into the following issue:

First, yes I have seen the previous post from Lagerimsi about his driver issue with his GeForce GTX 660 and unfortunately it did not help in my case.

So, wanted to put the Nvidia Drivers as my machine has a GTX 970.

I did:
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

Then:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update

Code: Select all
sudo ubuntu-drivers devices

Saw an option for the Nvidia 370 in the output, so I did
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install nvidia-370

Code: Select all
sudo reboot

When it started up, the Login Screen already looked weird: The EditText was very small, Texts misplaced etc
Once inside Neon...Everything got very small, could hardly read the texts. Changing the resolution of the screen to a ridiculous 1024*768 helped but still not usable.

Same goes when selecting the Driver from the GUI "Additional Drivers"

Anyone ran into the same issue?
Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I also have a nvidia GTX970 and can remember I had quite a few issues getting NVIDIA drivers to work properly, Tried the latest from nvidia itself, the latest from the ubuntu repo but eventually settled on this one:

nvidia-364 - NVIDIA binary driver - version 364.19

Works like a charm now, so maybe you can try a few different driver versions..

Cheers...

If it's just the text, not icons or other elements of UI, try to play out with fonts settings, especially with 'Force fonts DPI' option.

So, in fact with the Nvidia 364.19, videos were buggy.
With the Latest 370, all good.
Forcing the DPI definitely did the trick with my issue of everything being small (as an Android Programmer, I can relate to DPI very much!)

However, the Login Screen seems to not be affected by it at all... Everything is ridiculously small and not aligned properly.
As it is just a Login Screen, no big deal but fixing that issue would still be nice
