Hi. Installed Neon in Virtual Box recently.
Added Guest Additions CD. But can not run .sh file.
Click, chose "Execute", and nothing happens...
Right click, "Run in Konsole" doesn`t work also...

How to run it? Want to use Neon in fullscreen mode in Virtual Box.

In Xenial: There is a simpler way to achieve the same. Install the Package

virtualbox-guest-x11

Logout/in, done.

You need to run it as root.

How to do that? Seems like Dolphin doesn`t have "run as root" feature

from a terminal. in dolphin right click (not on a file but in some empty space in dolphin's window), select "Actions" -> "Open terminal here" and then in terminal

Code: Select all
sudo ProgramName

where ProgramName the executable you want to run.

1) to build the guest additions yourself, please google 'install virtualbox guest additions kubuntu' there you find lots of tutorials explaining all the details.

2) The virtualbox-guest-x11 Package in in the xenial-updates/multiverse part of the ubuntu repositories. Add at least in neon dev stable & unstable this is enabled by default. If it's not enabled for start: discover -> settings -> enable Xenial updates multiverse repository. Then

sudo apt update
sudo apt install virtualbox-guest-x11

Works for me ;-)

In KDE Neon, if I try install virtualbox-guest-x11 I'll get broken dependencies.

Probably this is the reason why @alxgvr cannot install trying to run the additions executable.

The output of my install attempt:

Code: Select all
sudo apt install virtualbox-guest-x11

try this:
1. disable 3D-Acceleration under Virtualbox Display Settings
see https://askubuntu.com/questions/679234/ ... on-kubuntu

2. Mount Additions CD and then run "sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run"

these worked for me, and my environment:
win7 64bit
VirtualBox 5.2 Beta2
Neon-useredition-20170907-1018-amd64

Yes, but virtualbox-guest-x11-hwe works, I tried it just now.

So, I think the best solution is intalling virtualbox-guest-x11-hwe but not virtualbox-guest-x11 or VB Guest Additions CD.

Probably this is the reason why @alxgvr cannot install trying to run the additions executable.
