Hello.
Did anyone try/succeed installing Bumblebee/Primus on this distro ? I have wasted 2 days and it does not work at all. Tried following instructions: 1) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee#Setup ... _and_later 2) http://www.webupd8.org/2016/08/how-to-i ... lebee.html 3) and many more... Tried few Kernels: 4.8, 4.5, 4.4, 3.19, 3.18, 3.17 Still getting generic Errors that are described in all tutorials but non of the instructions fix it. Note, that same instructions worked in Mint, Netrunner and Debain with Kernels from 3.16 to 4.4. So did anyone succeed in using this? Regards. |

I used the second tutorial you listed about a week ago
http://www.webupd8.org/2016/08/how-to-i ... lebee.html Specifically make sure you add the bumblebee ppa as suggested as the recently-added nvidia-367 didn't work with stock Ubuntu bumblebee for me (it did with the previous nvidia-361) Stock kernel nvidia-367 driver NVS 4200M on a Dell e6420 laptop

If you are talking about the bumblebee "plasmoid" widget? I use it. It only shows when the GPU is in use. I also use "Nvidia X Server Settings" GUI, which enables you to switch back and forth on the fly. The difference is, using Nvidia X Server Settings makes the nvidia GPU global, so to speak, instead of using Bumblebee and being able to load <path to file/game> and different profiles. But you can also do that in NVidia X Server Settings.
I have the MSI GT60 Optimus Intel/Nvidia, and I switch back and forth all the time. In Mint, Bumblebee worked without having to logout and then back in. It no longer does that in Mint, and requires a logout/login in Neon as well. I was pleasantly surprised when I installed Neon, and watched my GPU led go from "red", (upon bootup) and auto switch to "white" CPU ![]() |

claydoh,
Thanks for the reply. I have tried both, no ppa and with ppa. Still can't get it working at all. Did you have to do any extra steps to make it work or it just worked after you followed that turtorial? Did you install nvidia-367 from bash ? |

Error I get after following instructions and checking everything is setup correctly:

I am shaking my head, because I have said as above, I have no problems with bumblebee... nvidia-optimus. Matter of fact, as I said above, you only need the NVIDIA X Server Settings manager (gui).
Go into Muon. Install nvidia-prime, nvidia-settings and bbswitch-dkms. Now go into your menu and look for the green nvidia icon "Configure NVIDIA X Server Settings" Menu>Applications>System>Configure NVIDIA X Server Settings. Once you actually enable your GPU (by logging out and back in) you will see a nvidia icon in the panel. If you have an MSi Laptop, your LED will go "red" indicating the GPU is in use. *(Ignore the terminal I had up at the time). You can also create a launcher with the "NVIDIA X Server Settings" like I did, which I have sitting as you can see in my top panel in Cairo. Create a top panel, install cairo-dock (either in Muon or command line), move cairo to the dock panel. Launch Nvidia x server, you'll see the green nviida icon appear in the cairo dock, do a right click on the nvidia icon.. "create launcher", and voila!! \o/ See screenshots 1, 2, and 3 ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi again!
This is not what I am looking for. This method is counterproductive, as every time I need to run a single app (3D Cad, OpenGL app) I need to re-login and now everything runs on NVidia, which is not good at all. I have used several distros before, and Bubmelbee method is the best and worked in Debian, Netrunner.. Where you are always on Intel card, and when you need to run a single app on Nvidia card, just edit it's shortcut or from terminal do this: primusrun freecad This method is the best, but it does not work in KDE Neon. I have wasted tons of time and installed, re-installed. Nothing works. So I am looking for anyone, who succeeded with Bumblebee driver in KDE Neon. As no one has replied for so long, I guess KDE Neon still has a low user base. I will keep waiting. Other then that, everything is good in KDE Neon. |
