Hi all,

I just switched from Neon user edition to Neon LTS by switching repos in neon.list
First I had doubts about doing the update because apt update gave me 85 packages to update and ended with the following:

N: Skipping acquire of configured file 'main/binary-i386/Packages' as repository 'http://archive.neon.kde.org/user/lts xenial InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'i386'

I then downloaded the LTS iso and installed it in virtualbox and noticed the same message after apt update.
I compared the version numbers of a few of the 85 packages the be updated with the version numbers of the just installed LTS in virtualbox and they matched.

Performed the update and all is well. System information now shows Neon 5.8 LTS

Cheers..

Edit the file:
/etc/apt/source.list.d/neon.list

And change the url from:
http://archive.neon.kde.org/user
to:
http://archive.neon.kde.org/user/lts/

then in terminal run:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

Add "[arch=amd64]" to /etc/apt/source.list.d/neon.list after "deb", before server, like this:

Code: Select all
deb [arch=amd64] http://archive.neon.kde.org/user/lts/ xenial main
deb-src [arch=amd64] http://archive.neon.kde.org/user/lts/ xenial main

Repository is ok but I think this is now impossible. LTS has a plasma 5.8.5, User edition plasma 5.9. I think it is not possible downgrade.

Yes, repos are good, but I installed today user LTS version and I have same problem like OP user...So I changed /etc/apt/source.list.d/neon.list as I wrote and now is everything OK....

OP put this title
Switch from Neon user edition to Neon LTS

I do not understand that if you install user edition and correct neon.list and get Neon LTS?or you just corrected neon.list in Neon LTS

OP also wrote this

So, bottom line, there is that error message even if you install Neon LTS with plasma 5.8.5, and I have changed "neon.list" and there's no that error anymore.

Strange, why is this switch not working for me?

There are no packages to up-/downgrade and when I try to reinstall "plasma-desktop" I get this:
Code: Select all
sudo aptitude reinstall plasma-desktop
The following packages will be REINSTALLED:
  plasma-desktop
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 reinstalled, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B of archives. After unpacking 0 B will be used.
E: Can't find a source to download version '4:5.9.1-0neon+16.04+build52' of 'plasma-desktop:amd64'
E: Can't find a source to download version '4:5.9.1-0neon+16.04+build52' of 'plasma-desktop:amd64'
E: Internal error: couldn't generate list of packages to download

downgrade is impossible :)

Hi again, alideda! :)

I've read you post, but after comments like "works like a charm" I was hoping it could work anyways.
Nevertheless, thank you for your answer!

Who said that downgrade is impossible? Just read documentation about pinning repositories up and down in Ubuntu.

And how exactly does this work in this context (besides the above mentioned changes in "neon.list")?

This changes are not for downgrade, they are mentioned in the context of error which apt have in OP.
