Why you should avoid using kde neon

Sat Dec 17, 2016 9:30 pm
Ok so after using kde neon as my main OS for a couple of months now , thought i'd stop by and share some reasons as to why one should not use kde neon.
Firstly its very buggy, plasma shell often freezes and you must log out/in a few times to get it working , unless you start up kysyguard and terminal real fast before it freezes
that way you can kill process , and restart plasmashell in terminal. this stuff makes it a hassel and i dont even have many programs installed, just wine and krita, smplayer
even though kde neon is frequently updated, this problem still happens

Also you cant get video thumbnails to work in dolphin kde neon

apart from that its just not a good desktop OS for everyday use , and actually ubuntu derivitives that use kde arent really good
ubuntu based os's dont give good kde experience
this includes linux mint kde , and kubuntu . Ubuntu its self isnt really good for the kde platform, its better off with gnome-based desktops

The support is very poor for kde neon, its just a small team ,so if you run into a problem youre pretty much on your own

Overall , i advise all to avoid using this distro as a main os ,and choose something more reliable, there are much better professional alternatives that give latest kde software
such as KAos ,Manjaro , Tumbleweed linux

conclusion: i suggest Using kde neon only for testing purposes , not as a dependable everyday main OS

I have to disagree, well, on pretty much everything you just stated.
KDE Neon for me, and my roomate, and 3 other machines it is on.... is rock solid.
No freezes, not buggy.
Maybe next time you post, post some useful info such as stats on what machine you are using ect., and someone can help you.
Open a terminal and type: inxi -F
It could be you need a different driver. Who knows. You basically say it's **** with no info.
Or perhaps instead if telling people what not to use, just quietly try another GNU/Linux OS. Another might suit your needs better. There are hundreds.

As for the devs of Neon, I Love KDE Neon. Have tried them all. Gentoo, Sabyon, Debian, Mint..... you name it. Neon is now my main OS.
Keep up the good work.

It's got nothin to do with my hardware at all hun , i used basic intel stuff which is fully supported by kernel , and an amd machine with opensource graphics :)

plasmashell always freezes as soon as i connect to a wifi network, freezes right when the connection activated notification pops up, doesnt even load all the way, just a clear rectangle , then shoots up to 50% cpu usage and i have to kill it

the problem is indeed inherent to kde neon , as ive never experienced the issues i have with neon in opensuse, and manjaro , not even with kubuntu, problem with kubuntu is i got depenency hells to the point to where it broke and i couldnt log on anymore, and kubuntu wasnt that great at all in the first place

I am here sharing my issues ive had using kde neon for a good while, and ive come to the conclusion that its just not a good kde os , i gave it chances , all these other distros just provide better kde experience, ubuntu isnt the one for kde desktop, but its good for gnome 3 and mate

But if kde neon workd good for you and all your roomate buddie/ies, all the more power to you :)

I am not having any problems on my PC or Laptop. Everything is rock solid. Neon is quickly climbing the ranks at Distrowatch. If it was not reliable, more people would have said so.

im having problems with it on my deluxe highly calibrated laptop.
maeh , it's not even really a distro, its just packages , and you cant even have multiple desktops on it,but it is kde focused and kde is my favorite, but i like to go into xfce sometimes , kde neon is just not for me
but if you disagree and its working great for you then all the more power to you ,hope you use it forever and ever
