I really have no idea if this is the correct place to be posting this problem but I've been searching constantly and haven't found any other person with the same issue as me so at this point I'm just grasping at straws and ready to try just about anything to avoid having to reinstall.
I'm currently running KDE neon 5.8.5 and the problem that previously fixed itself by reverting from kernel 4.4.0-53 to 4.4.0-51 has popped up again and this time it seems as though it doesn't want to just fix itself like before when I revert from one kernel to the other. The problem I'm having is that both the OpenGL compositors are laggy while also missing some desktop effects (such as wobbly windows) and are overall completely unusable. Now, this may sound like a hardware issue but I assure you it's not. This problem seems to randomly arise each time I either a. Update the kernel or b. Update the Plasma version (at least this seems to be case the three times it has happened). At this point I am about ready to tear my hair out and do a fresh install or just use XRender full-time (which I really don't want to do) and am really just looking for any ideas from people possibly more experienced than I. |

Have you tried a different (higher) kernel? Say, from the 4.8 series?
I know there have been incremental improvements in the 4.4 series, but the the most recent 4.8 kernel includes updates not yet in the 4.4 series.

Which is the most recent 4.8 kernel? I think I tried one of them a few days ago but stopped using it because it didn't fix anything (may not have been the newest). |

Didn't help with this specific issue but it may help in other areas so it's still probably nice to have. |
