Hi all. I'm having an issue with the KDE Discover applicaiton in KDE Neon Dev Stable release.

The application opens with the message "Please make sure that AppStream is properly configured on your system"... I'm guessing this is related to the crashes.

When launching the application, this is the startup log:

Code: Select all
$ plasma-discover

I've tried reinstalling plasma-discover, muon, appstream, etc. No luck. I've also followed some advice on another forum to run a a forced refresh of appstream with

Code: Select all
sudo appstreamcli refresh --force

..but this also hasn't changed anything.

Some people mentioned these types of errors existed in appstrem 9.x but were fixed with the update to v10, I'm running v10.x and still getting issues.

I've tried to find logs etc to determine what is happening and I'm lost. Any suggestions?

Looks like it's a bug and already reported

Bug 374279 - https://www.mail-archive.com/kde-bugs-dist@kde.org/msg104767.html

A couple of teams pointing fingers at each other so it will be a while before this is resolved. Unless the community has any suggestions?

Latest updates today have improved stability, but not entirely resolved as the application still crashes during use. However it is able to browse and install applications now so we're getting there. Thanks to whoever is working on this!

This is a bug in Plasma Discover (or arguably in appstream). The Plasma Discover dev says he'll fix it this week.

Same problem here. KDE Neon 5.9.1, user edition. I hope, updates will fix this.

I was having the same problem as mindaugasc yesterday. Also firefox was not connecting to the net. This was a new installion of KDE neon user.
Today this problem has disapeared, and I'm up and running.

I liked discovery. I saw that it gives an easy way to install all the programs that might be included in a fatter distro, so it's good that it's working.

This bug is marked as closed, but I'm still having frequent crashes in Discover. It seems to be most often when performing a search. I'm running the latest version of Neon with all updates applied. I can provide logs, testing, or other details upon request.
