Smaragd in Neon

Me to cfeck:
Plasma is still an alien DE for me but I like it a lot. There's a tone of Emerald but to no avail. I've asked at least one person way more familiar with Plasma to check whether Smaragd can indeed power those window decorations but seemingly it can't. I just wanna ask you whether Smaragd can power those themes or not. Much appreciated in advance. Thanks.

cfeck to me:
Smaragd supports all Emerald decorations. Do you have a link to a theme that does not work?

me to cfeck:
Thanks for the short reaction time. Wow, that's great news. I know it sounds kinda stupid but I don't know how to set up the Smaragd engine in Neon. I'm a noob. I would need a step-by-step guide. As in sudo this and sudo that. Thanks. You're awesome.

cfeck to me:
See https://kdepepo.wordpress.com/2016/12/2 ... -plasma-5/

For actual names of the devel packages, please ask in a forum of your distribution.

So that was our little conversation. Guess it says it all. Can someone give me further guidance, please? Oh, I don't mind if Smaragd is a bit resource intensive.

Best wishes community,
Richard Addison

This should install all required packages, but not tested, because I do not use Neon:

sudo apt-get install git build-essential cmake qtbase5-dev libkf5config-dev libkf5coreaddons-dev libkf5i18n-dev libkf5widgetsaddons-dev libkdecorations2-dev libglib2.0-dev libcairo2-dev

Hi guys,

I have successfully installed Smaragd on Neon.

I've used:
sudo apt-get install git build-essential cmake qtbase5-dev libkf5config-dev libkf5coreaddons-dev libkf5i18n-dev libkf5widgetsaddons-dev libkdecorations2-dev libglib2.0-dev libcairo2-dev extra-cmake-modules gettext

then:
git clone git://anongit.kde.org/smaragd.git
cd smaragd
git checkout kdecoration2
mkdir build && cd build
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr ..
make && sudo make install

then: reboot

Done. Works.

I'm addressing a heartfelt thank you to cfeck for his work and support as well as to all those who have made it possible.

Best wishes community,
Richard

Topic under rework. Nah. This is a mobile device. It still doesn't look as I intended it to.
