Just installed kde neon and for some reason pulseaudio is not running by default. I can get it to run ok if I manually run 'pulseaudio' but I've never had to do that before.
If I run

systemctl start pulseaudio.service

then it runs as root but that obvious doesn't work for me as a user.

How do I enable this to be run as my user when I log in? I know I can use autostart but I don't think it's normal to have to do that for pulseaudio.

If I do this I get "Failed to execute operation: Too many levels of symbolic links". This is when run the above command with sudo or directly as root with su.

The command is correct. I think the problem is somewhere else and keeps who the develop system.

Does pulseaudio even need to run as a systemd service? I'm finding very little information on running it like this and a quick check in the Neon live usb seems to suggest that it doesn't run as a service.

I have noticed that my ~/.pulse/client.conf keeps getting overwritten with the value of "autospawn = no". I think this is causing the problem but I can't figure out what is doing that, /etc/pulse/client.conf is uncommented "autospawn = yes" so it shouldn't be derived from that.
