Hibernation

Mon Apr 10, 2017 6:47 pm
Hi!

I enabled hibernation using these instructions and it works, but I'm not seeing an option to hibernate when I press the power button. There's no option to hibernate on login screen also.

I can see the option in "Application Menu => Power / Session" and hibernation is also selectable in Power Management.

I see…

Do You have a laptop (with battery)?
Do You have a desktop (without battery)?

If laptop, then un-/re-plug wallpower and look for
changing options.

You could install "hibernate" and/or "qshutdown",
and read their documentation.

The "SystemSettings" show only what is supposed to be available.

While testing, for one single time, I had
"Suspend to Disk" in my menu.

All other times, it's only "Suspend to RAM".

Maybe, it's not implemented (correctly) in Plasma5, as yet.

Or it must be explicitly configured per config-file. Maybe…

I'll have to check it myself.

We are talking about the same thing right?

Thanks for the image!

Yes. We're talking about the same thing.

Hibernation and Suspend-to-Disk is the same thing.

After Login into Plasma:
Press Alt-F2 and enter "suspend" into krunner's window.
Under the 'Power'-Heading, You can see which kinds of
Suspend-to-… are available.

If You enter "hibernate" there, then "Suspend-to-Disk" appears.
Looks good, so far…

I appreciate Your honest and clear words.
Maybe I exaggerated a little.

I only wanted to say:
I'm sure, it can be configured.
but, unfortunately, it isn't out-of-the-box.

I understand very well, that there are people
with other/better/more important things to do
than playing around with their OS.

Nice to have met You.

Bye.

Is it possible that problem is in SDDM's theme?

EDIT: I filed a bug.

At first, I too suspected the sddm configuration.

But then I saw in the Settings page of the "Lock/Logout"-widget
that the Hibernation checkbox is greyed out.

Therefore I conclude that hibernation is not configured into the underlying
Ubuntu-system.

I think, You have to activate it somewhere under-the-hood, there.

Maybe that's wrong. But seems most probable to me.
