I would say you can trust it ,,,,it seems well vetted.
But you can only connect to other users of it .

it's not an appimage per say but an executable ELF binary and seems to work @hear ,,,,but I have no one to connect to .

the test I did is on Neon-/dev/stable

after downloading the tsetup.1.2.1.tar.xz move it to where you want it to live ,,,,,extract it with Ark (extract hear auto detect subfolder ) then all you half to do is click the Telegram executable in the Telegram folder ,,,it will take a few second to install the menu item and start up.

it will ask for a phone # that will be used to text mesage & call you with a code # to insert for an acct. with them

that's "conky" and has to be setup for your system with it's ~/.conkyrc

google it ,,,,,you will find a lot of info and some starter .conkyrc's

if you want (ask) I will post mine ,,,but their will undoubtedly be some parts that will not work for you and your system ......those parts can be commented out and or reworked to fit your system however ,,,,,,,that should be worked on in a new thread however
