Hi,
I'm running KDE Neon 5.9.4 Developer Edition. Yesterday while I was doing updates apt gave me this error:
I tried
Anyone knows if there's a solution? Thanks in advance.

Something seems weird:
# I've installed 64Bit 'kio-extras', as can be seen here: $ dpkg -l | grep kio-extras ii kio-extras 4:16.12.3-0neon+16.04+build16 amd64 Extra functionality for kioslaves. ii kio-extras-data 4:16.12.3-0neon+16.04+build16 all Extra functionality for kioslaves data files. # But no installed or installable 64Bit shown here (only 32Bit): $ apt list kio-extras Listing... Done kio-extras/xenial 4:15.12.3-0ubuntu1 i386 # There seems to be an inconsistency between: 1) dpkg: OK and 2) apt: not OK # I'm using: $ lsb_release -sd KDE neon User Edition 5.9 Something wrong in Package Management? |

Yes, I can confirm that inconsistency between dpkg and apt, same here. Maybe it's related to the dependency issue I have encountered? I don't know

Please:
Try to install 'neon-desktop', and tell, what happens. |

I have just tried a fresh install on a VM, and I've found that:
1 - Neon User Edition works fine; 2 - Neon Developer Edition (stable) has this bug; 3 - Changing Neon ppa from /user to /dev/stable in the Neon User Edition VM has the same proble of (2). So this bug should affect only Developer Edition, though I didn't try the dev/unstable. |

Good news!
Did You try 'apt list kio-extras' in Your new VM? I'm still looking for answers on my system. But, everything seems fine ('Package'-files, package cache, etc. ). I'm clueless, as yet. # Another strangeness: $ command apt-cache search '^mc$' mc - Midnight Commander - a powerful file manager $ command apt-cache -a search '^mc$' E: Command line option 'a' [from -a] is not understood in combination with the other options. # but there are no "other options"… EDIT: Addition # this gives completely all 64Bit results, even for 'ubuntu': $ command apt-cache madison kio-extras | grep ' Packages' kio-extras | 4:16.12.3-0neon+16.04+build16 | http://archive.neon.kde.org/user xenial/main amd64 Packages kio-extras | 4:16.12.2-0neon+16.04+build15 | http://archive.neon.kde.org/user xenial/main amd64 Packages kio-extras | 4:15.12.3-0ubuntu1 | http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages # But still 32Bit only: $ apt list kio-extras Listing... Done kio-extras/xenial 4:15.12.3-0ubuntu1 i386 |

Tried
However, now
It's just an hypothesis, but I think that since language packs have been available in dev/stable only for a month, maybe they go in conflict with the new framework, but I'm not sure. Should I mark this as solved? |

In aptitude, You can see that/wether kio-extras and
kde-l10n-it are incompatible. And lots of other languages, too. Because Your original problem existed on Dev-Edition, I would not regard it as solved. Even if it is "kind-of" solved on User-Edition.

Okay, then I'll change if possible the title of the topic since it's misleading.

By the way:
I do not at all think, it's correct to overwrite files belonging to the underlying "Ubuntu LTS"-OS with files from "KDE neon"-Desktop packages. This way, madness is guaranteed, sooner or later. KDE has to replace Ubuntu packages, not to madly overwrite their files. |

I guess you're right. However, since other incompatibilities with another packages like kio-gdrive occurred, I'll temporarily switch from /dev/stable to /user ppa. I'll test new updates to Developer Edition through my Neon Dev VM.

Solved with newer version of Neon Dev Stable.
