Can't use my USB headphone

Fri May 19, 2017 1:05 am
Hello everyone,

I am unable to play the audio output on my usb HyperX II Cloud Headset on KDE Neon.

In System Settings > Multimedia > Audio and Video > Device preferences, my headset is grayed out (Hyper X Headset 7.1 audio analog stereo). Also, there is no mention of my headset in Audio volume > Output device and Audio volume >Input device (the audio icon on the tray bar).

Is my headset incompatible with KDE Neon or am I doing something wrong?

Regards,
Alex

maybe your usb device is not recognized by kernel.

enter this command in terminal to view usb devices:
lsusb

install PulseAudio Volume Control gui and test it.

Thank you for the response.
Strangely, lsusb recognize my Headset:

I have installed pavucontrol. Again, my headset is missing in input and output tab. What is weird is that my headset shows in the configuration tab but I can only set it OFF or Analog stereo input.

I would like to add that I have tried to use aplay -L and my headset is also listed there.

Code: Select all
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]

  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 2: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 9: HDMI 3 [HDMI 3]

I have also open alsamixer and I can see my headset as a listed card. But I don't know how to use it to select my card as an audio output

I Am really confused about what is going on, should I request a bug?
Thank you in advance,

hi

I don't have usb headset but why did you not test PA control panel tab to config
but I can only set it OFF or Analog stereo input.

and enable analog stereo input.....yes I know you want output but lets see what happens.

2) the other way way to do it....altho its messy is to assume you will always (while you have an asoundrc file) to use usb sound output only?

Is that acceptable?

3) in the meantime do a clean reboot without usb inserted then once logged in....insert usb headset and post the code snippet for anything sound related but I show the command in REVERSE order meaning the output will be at the top

can be run as local user.....post the lsmod command twice....once without inserting usb and then afterwards....as I am not sure what sound module this usb uses
Code: Select all
journalctl -r
lsmod | grep snd

####################
try at own risk.....leaping ahead....assuming card index values don't change, you could leave usb inserted and on reboot try this file
.asoundrc
contents
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 1
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 1
}
