Hello,

I have decided to try to get back into Plasma 5 after the last failed attempt - about 6 months ago. (As there are a few programs / widgets that are on Plasma 5 that I would like to use)

I am trying to install it this time with KDE Neon.

I have booted the KDE Neon ISO in a Virtual Machine (VirtualBox)
When I go to install it, I complete all the steps in the installer and on the last page it spits out the following error:

Code: Select all
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity", line 649, in <module>
main(oem_config)
File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity", line 633, in main
install(args[0], query=options.query)
File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity", line 268, in install
ret = wizard.run()

File "/usr/Iib/ubiquity/ubiquity/frontend/kde_ui.py", line 528, in
run
self.start_slideshow()
File "/usr/Iib/ubiquity/ubiquity/frontend/kde_ui.py", line 644, in
start_slideshow
webView = self._create_webview()
File "/usr/Iib/ubiquity/ubiquity/frontend/kde_ui.py", line 597, in
_create_webview
from PyQt4.QtWebKit import QWebView
ImportError: No module named 'PyQt4.QtWebKit'

Anyone have any ideas? I have tried installing some PyQt4 packages (pyqt4 or similar to no avail)

It's a bit odd that the ISO offered on the Kde Neon website has this error... (I have tried both neon-userltsedition-20170607-0019-amd64.iso and neon-userltsedition-current.iso)

Hi,

That's intriguing. Try something else. Use a DVD. Make sure the data is uncorrupted. Checksum the iso after download. Burn it with data verification enabled. I even re-image the install disk onto the hard drive and and checksum obtained iso. USB sticks are the way to go though (provided the stick is a good quality one). Keep trying and you shall succeed. DVDs are junk too these days. Try the ones manufactured or outsourced by Mitsubishi Corp. (disk ID contains "MCC").

Have you tried User? Not the LTS. Can't tell you about the LTS cause I've been using User. And it hasn't failed. Installer Crashes? Never experienced an installer crash.

Those are the same.

Virtual box? Don't know. Try a Docker image.

At any rate, the solution is in your hands. I'm running Neon User on metal. It installs without problems and it runs without problems. Suitable for a daily driver.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

Just registered the forum to confirm the same issue when installing both, the user and user LTS editions.
ISOs hash of the download are OK, so this is a problem of the installation itself.

Hope you can fix it soon.

I can also confirm both the LTS User Edition and ordinary User Edition since the last live image builds of June 5 & 6 have bugged installations. However, only the LTS exhibits this serious problem (ImportError: No module named 'PyQt4.QtWebKit') that immediately ends the installation process every time rendering this latest LTS KDE neon build completely useless as an installation medium.

I shall mention the other separate bug with the new non-LTS (5.10) images only because it might be related. The new 5.10 images since June 5 cannot be installed offline. The old 16.04 bugged grub-efi package that requires an internet connection to install due to a dependency problem is back. Since I don't have a net connection at home, the new 5.10 neon images are also uninstallable.

Guess I'm totally out of luck when it comes to trying neon this week! Oh, well. Hope both problems are addressed because right now the entire User Edition half of this project is basically broken for new users. I should mention that I love playing with this livecd, though. Great work. Thank you.

Hi guys,

I don't know what is causing your problems.

On the 5th of June I downloaded the Neon User .iso, bured it to a DVD, installed from the disk and everything went flawlessly. Installation completed without issues and the system has been running without problems. Not even a tty black screen. Hope your issue will be solved somehow but it's strange.

Looks like Webkit was killed off from pyqt4 by packagers, I'm looking into it, sorry for the hassle

@raddison: Curious. Are you sure? I'm using USB, not DVD. Don't see how that would be relevant to the discovered problem myself, but it's a difference.

@jriddell: Thanks! :-)

[EDIT]My apologies. Please disregard most of the following. I did not use the latest ISO (neon-useredition-20170608-1948-amd64.iso). I just did, however, and the webkit error is resolved. Thank you!

However, fyi, the grub-efi issue is still present, meaning I had to install neon at my local public wifi cafe. Don't know what causes it. Seems to be a somewhat ubiquitous issue with 16.04 with no solutions yet, which is unfortunate. Probably not a common thing to have no network connection for installs, but I've added my info to the ongoing bug reports. Hope it'll be resolved soon. Seems like a simple bad .deb in the build, but who knows. Thanks again. Neon is great so far. What a great idea to showcase new KDE Plasma & apps.

Hey, thanks. Just want to let you know that I just tried what may be the new June 8 ISO build for the 5.10.1 User Edition -- downloaded a couple hours ago, and just returned home to give it a go. Here is a screenshot of the result. I know it's not funny, but it kinda is. Before, each edition had its own installation-preventing bug. Now the 5.10.1 User Edition exhibits both of the errors, both the 5.10 edition grub-efi error only when installing offline as well as the hitherto only 5.8 LTS installation error pertaining to PyQt4.QtWebKit. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

According to the log, the grub-efi error cites an unmet dependency for the grub-efi-amd64-signed package in the ISO. In the last build, if connected to the internet, that part of the installation succeeds, so the installer must download a working version to finish the installation. But I don't want to derail the original subject of this thread pertaining to the webkit issue. I just want to let everyone know there are at least two installation problems for new users.

You need internet access when installing EFI as you found out, this is a bug in Ubuntu and affects them the same. it needs quite a bit of effort to work around which I've not found the energy for yet

This thread got quite a bit of attention, it was interesting to go through and read some of the responses

I got the neon-userltsedition-20170608-2157-amd64.iso and it installed correctly! So far so good. :)

Thanks to the devs for putting this out
