Have run into a tty black screen and don't know how to get out of it?
1. Thou shalt not despair 2. Thou shalt not get angry 3. Thou shalt hold down Ctrl Alt and hit F7 4. Thou shalt help others

Having had this happen myself, and knowing about Ctrl Alt F7, this most certainly does not always work.
Also, I want to point out Mr Smarty Pants raddison, that you were a n00b once as well. Maybe try to refrain from making other people feel stupid. No one is stupid here. They are learning. Oo |

You've got the wrong impression. I am still a noob. In a broader sense any human (no matter how knowledgeable) is a noob. As for the "smarty pants", I admit you've got that part right. But then again any human has flaws. Also, I never ever intended to make anyone feel stupid. Ctrl Alt F7 does not alway work? You've just shattered my peace of mind. Then what does always work? If you're aware of a method that works when Ctrl Alt F7 doesn't, please be kind and share with us. Thank you.

Apart from this side discussion who is a noob and not, does CTRL Alt F7 correct the problem that brings me to the TTy1 or is it merely an extra step that I have to take to take to get to the gui? Should I go to the LTS edition to avoid this?

If you're in gui mode right now, press Ctrl Alt F1 then try to revert to the gui mode by Ctrl Alt F7. No, it shouldn't be an extra step. It seems to happen randomly after fresh installing the OS or after certain updates. It seems to affect Neon in general. Not specifically related to a version or edition*. In all fairness that's all I know. If someone has a better solution or extensive knowledge on this annoying tty issue, I would be glad to know about it.
Oh, this is not as if you have to Ctrl Alt F7 on every single boot. Only when the situation requires it. It's not very frequent but sure is annoying. It should never happen at all, unless prompted to happen. Oh, I have no idea what causes the issue but I'm assuming it's related to the X.Org server. Oh, I might be talking nonsense, so take it with a pinch of salt. At any rate, I hope the discussion will capacitate some attention so we can get to the bottom of it once and for all. *I'm referring to User and User LTS

@NoNameNoBlame
@claydoh Both of you guys are way more knowledgeable than I am. What are your opinions on this issue? Much appreciated in advance. @anewuser As said on the other thread I can go from tty1 to tty6. And can revert to gui by Ctrl Alt F7. The issue is: sometimes the machine boots into tty1 without being promted to do so. Please have a look at this thread as well. Appreciated.

This booting into TTy1 is something I've observed on Ubuntu's newest, openSUSE Leap as well as Neon. So, in my mind, this is not specific to any one offering. An F7 does indeed bring me to the gui, but while that gets me to where I want to go, it bugs me that I should even have to do it. I'm currently trying something else. The techs at System76 told me that SDDM is not their preference for machines they build. That said, I'm trying another theme for SDDM, other than the Breeze default, since I don't want to begin mucking about with a swapout to LightDM. Since yesterday, I've not had the problem. I'll come back in a week and report. Thanks.

Since Monday, when I reported that changing the SDDM theme from the Breeze default to Breeze cover theme, it has since resulted in greater stability. Haven't had to do a CTRL ALT F7 at all. For me Problem Solved
