The descriptions on the download page explain that LTS (long-term support) always means more stable: https://neon.kde.org/download

When in doubt, always get the LTS version of any software.

Only you can decide what works for you. Try both.

I switched to KDE neon a year ago, and there were no LTS at that time. I've experienced a few kernel panic situation after some updates (encrypted hard drive) , which forced me to reformat. So you have to deal with some pain with an encrypted hard drive once in a while! Then the LTS came I switched 5 out a dozen computers to LTS, and they have been working flawlessly. I also have not noticed any bugs with neither version, but of course if you want the latest (including bugs) stick with 5.10. I prefer a reliable computer that works every time and I don't like to worry about fixing it after an update. So personally I stick with LTS from now on. I've been using KDE about 10 years, and I've tried all flavors. I must say that KDE neon has been the best Linux distribution out there bar none, and many thanks to developers for such a fantastic OS.

I haven't checked the LTS in months, true. I'll look at it again. At any rate, these

User
Featuring the latest officially released KDE software on a stable base. Ideal for everyday users.

User LTS Edition
Featuring the latest officially released KDE software on a stable Plasma 5.8 LTS desktop and a stable base. Ideal for everyday users who want new applications but a stable desktop.

descriptions are relative and confusing. Both are said to be ideal for everyday users. I guess there are different kinds of everyday users. Which is nonsense to me. It's either ideal or it isn't. If a desktop is prone to be unstable or buggy, then it is not ideal for any kind of everyday user.

User
"Ideal for everyday users who want the latest officially released KDE applications on the latest officially released desktop" sounds better to me.

All that said, I'll check the LTS. At the moment I'm not all that sure whether it brings any benefits but I'll re-evaluate it. Last time I checked, it suffered from a regression, namely the folder frames on the desktop were broken. Guess what: in the "regular User" those frames were working just fine.

Also, fusing an update manager and a software manager is probably not a good idea but that's beyond the scope of this thread.

What on earth is an everyday user anyways?

I must say that KDE neon has been the best Linux distribution out there bar none

I don't know. But it sure is my personal favorite. Actually it's what I've settled for. It's what I like and use. Then again, it's not a distro, they say :)

Okay got it. Not a distro...but if you like KDE, "Neon" is the king, and #19 in distrowatch! ;)

Hi guys,

I promised I would check out the LTS as well.

In my humble opinion:

User is great for advanced users who don't mind their desktop breaking once in a while and for those who want the latest officially released goodies.

LTS is great for entry-level users and for those who want a newish desktop that is stable and bug-free enough to be suitable for productivity work and business.

I'm pretty upset with the latest Qt causing a severe regression in the User Edition. I'm assuming they hadn't properly, if at all, tested its compatibility with Kwin and whatnot before releasing it into the wild. An unfortunate event that could have and should have been avoided.

With that said, I'm still sticking with Neon and they have my vote of confidence.

You might want to check their efforts to make the best possible software available for all kinds of audiences right there, while striving to explain what's what. I've been tinkering on Phab for hours. If the question is whether they should kill off the LTS, then the answer is no, as they should have an offering for those who favor an LTS (with backports and further bugfixes) as well.

Disclaimer: Neon themselves are stating the software comes without any warranty ... I think the same: the responsibility for using the software for whatever purpose is entirely yours. That holds true with any software from anywhere though.

Well, in theory, rolling should work without issues. But in practice never does. At least not for people who's purpose is other than the OS itself. Obviously, we're aware that only the software on top of Xenial is rolling in User. ;)

All in all, as I've got other business than fixing the OS, I might consider the LTS. But with Canopee instead of Bizmuth though, as it is more calming. :)

I think both User and User LTS are great, each in its own way. Hence I'll use both, but for different purposes.
