New image in a matter of hours?!

Wed Jun 28, 2017 8:05 pm
Hi guys,

neon user lts 20170627-13:23
neon user lts 20170628-00:40

I wonder why did the Neon team push a new image in a matter of hours. Was there anything wrong with the 20170627-13:23 build? Or am I missing something? :-\

For what it's worth my current and updated install is based off of neon user lts 20170524-00:43 build. And it works splendidly. It's the best experience I've ever had on a GNU/Linux OS. Everything just works! Kudos Neon Team! ;)

My gut feeling is they have not 1 but 2 LTS branches. Just a theory. Needs further investigation.

https://phabricator.kde.org/T4894 Don't know. Maybe there are 2 LTSs indeed. Inconclusive.

Note: you cannot assess the number of LTS users based on the number of downloads or based on the in-built install counting. It's important for Neon to have an LTS offering as well.

So, what was the issue with the build released on the 27th. Was it faulty or what?

When you installed the NonLTSbuild you had wrong permission to the whole "/". It was not so nice because i installed some computers and i have only seen it after some installations and configuration because errors of sudo and permissionproblems.

@boospy007

Give the LTS a try, then tell me your opinion on that one. It's not bleeding edge but it isn't really that far behind. Seems to work just fine.

5.8 LTS
Our desktop, featuring long-term support so you can compute without worries.

That's all I need, irrelevant of whether it's used in schools or at CERN. Some things I've noticed though in Discover:
- No Muon (yet).
- Some double listings
- Icons are low-res (most)
- Apps not consistent with the VDG guidelines (important)
- I'm not sure if Files (Nemo) is that important cause this ain't Cinnamon
- gtk apps that are inconsistent with the overall look 'n feel of the desktop. Should be reworked with Qt.
- no proper dependency cleanup when removing apps
- no massage saying like this and that dependency will be installed/removed
- I'm not sure whether the apps are audited properly.

Other than that Discover works as it should.

I'm not sure how can I help to improve Discover but I'll think about it.

So nope, failed builds never make it to the download. The one built on the 27th was started by Jonathan, the one built on the 28th was started by timer.

https://build.neon.kde.org/view/iso/job ... ion_amd64/

I kinda blame myself for not having done proper research before posting dumb questions. Then again, I started out on GNU/Linux approximately 2.5 years ago and my first encounter with KDE is even more recent.

Also, they provide one with all needed info but they sure not gonna spoon-feed anyone. Which is fair enough, as they have more important things to do.

Seems low-res icons are being purged and gradually replaced with nice high-res ones, which is good. I'm talking LTS edition right now. :)

@Ubulindy I'm interested in KDE Neon. Hence my posts belong to KDE Neon. I admit my brain is stormy at times but I'll try to keep my posts on-track. Also, I anticipate a decrease in number, as now I feel on-track with Neon. Thanks for the suggestion though. I shall consider it.
