# I can't remember to have removed

$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/* | grep kde

deb http://archive.neon.kde.org/user xenial main
deb-src http://archive.neon.kde.org/user xenial main

manually from the pkcon configuration, myself.

# But, it's missing here:

It gets more interesting: Maybe, the SignatureKeys of KDEneon are broken?

Because now KDE doesn't even appear as DISABLED any more. It's gone.

pkcon hangs (indefinitely?)

Let's wait and see if it has a timeout.

Doesn't look like that.

I'll wait for 2 hours.

Maybe it continues. Maybe…

Oh! It finished:

# pkcon refresh
Refreshing cache [=========================]
Loading cache [=========================]
Refreshing software list [=========================]
Downloading packages [=========================]
Finished [=========================]
Fatal error: W: The repository 'http://archive.neon.kde.org/user xenial Release' does not have a Release file.
W: Data from such a repository can't be authenticated and is therefore potentially dangerous to use.
W: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

# Exit Return Code is: 7

The transaction failed, see the detailed error for more information.

# I'll set the topic to UNSOLVED, again.

Temporary issues with repositories sometimes happen. In this case two events happened, as described in this blog post here and in the comments:
http://blog.bshah.in/2017/08/04/neon-ci-was-down/

In general, when something like this happen, asking on more direct channels (IRC) can help. And in the worst case, just wait 24 hours; if it was a temporary glitch, it could be solved by that time.

1)
Such news don't belong only in some obscure, undetectable
blogs.

They belong as announcement with date and time
on the top of this forum.

2)
I don't like to discuss public problems 'in private'.
I know: Such repository problems can happen.

But since Ubuntu overwrote some KDE Neon packages
lately ('base-files' for example: One of only 25 "Essential"
packages among over 50000

$ apt-cache stats
Total package names: 73093 (1,462 k)
Total package structures: 112347 (4,943 k)
Normal packages: 83346

)
…well, since this happened, it's not a normal situation.
These things never happen in other distributions.

I would never expect a steam package from Valve
to overwite OS-Core packages, for example.

This is no normal simply-wait-24-hours situation.

The situation in the blog post described what happened the day after.

An IRC channel is a public channel.

Also, I'm not sure what is the problem with base-files and the situation described in this thread, and finally, Neon is not a distribution, but a repository on top of a distribution.

Aggregated on https://planet.kde.org.
But that's not the point: the situation solved after a day.

1)
"I'm not sure what is the problem with base-files"

$ kcmshell5 about-distro
but "Ubuntu 5.10" doesn't exist on this planet.

2)
"and the situation described in this thread, "

You don't understand the problem with missing
encryption keys? Can't be true…

3)
"and finally, Neon is not a distribution, but a repository on top of a distribution."
Yes. But:

Then, why does KDE Neon overwrite Ubuntu's distribution packages ('base-files')?

Problem still exists:
1)
KDE not in Repository List
# pkcon refresh
Refreshing cache [=========================]
Loading cache [=========================]
Refreshing software list [=========================]
Downloading packages [=========================]
Running [=========================]
Finished [=========================]
Enabled http://repo.steampowered.com/steam precise InRelease
Enabled http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian xenial InRelease
Enabled http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial InRelease
Disabled http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable InRelease
Enabled http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb stable Release
Enabled https://deb.opera.com/opera-stable stable InRelease
Enabled http://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org xenial InRelease

No KDE!

2)
Check if enabled.
# pkcon repo-list | grep kde
Enabled /etc/apt/sources.list.d/neon.list:deb http://archive.neon.kde.org/user/ xenial main Xenial (main)
Enabled /etc/apt/sources.list.d/neon.list:deb-src http://archive.neon.kde.org/user/ xenial main Xenial (main)

YES. Enabled.

3) Repeat step 1:

# pkcon refresh
Refreshing cache [=========================]
Loading cache [=========================]
Refreshing software list [=========================]
Downloading packages [=========================]
Running [=========================]
Finished [ ] (0%)
Do you want to allow installing of unsigned software? [N/y] N

The unsigned software will not be installed.
[=========================]
Loading cache [=========================]
Fatal error: user declined interaction

STILL BROKEN. Nothing changed.

Why should it not have a modified base-files?
i.e. :have the system announce and define itself as Neon as opposed to Ubuntu?
I believe they have to do so as they are not an official Ubuntu variant:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DerivativeDistr ... sb-release for example. This is all done in files found in base-files, just as Ubuntu modifies it from Debian.
