Shipping updates to Firefox for the LTS base is up to ubuntu.
If you want to test Firefox 55 while they ready the stable release/security update for it, then you can test it at your own risk from their ubuntu-mozilla-security PPA. |

I looked at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-s ... /+packages and could it be that they're having some build issues?
In any case, I use Firefox directly from Mozilla. Works just fine in Kubuntu 16.04. I'm on 55.0.1. According to https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Channe ... ule_Update, there maybe some issues with v55 and there may well be a v55.0.2. |

Firefox has been failing builds on those non x86 architectures for some time now. The last Firefox 54 update pushed to Xenial updates actually faired worse looking here. it is being looked at however. |

So you're using Firefox directly form Mozilla. That gets me thinking. I perceive a Unix-like operating system as an organic structure. And it should be an organic structure but distros and spins have difficulties in bonding third-party pieces together in a timely fashion. Solutions there are plenty: PPAs, snaps, flatpaks, appimages, binaries directly from the makers. Cool. That all is reminiscent of how Windows works (save the PPAs). The very concept of distro is kinda lost in the process. Whatever works though. Also I'm not complaining at all. Noticed this place is kinda depressing like a hospital and certainly not a fair representation of the the entire userbase. Watch this https://youtu.be/dYDTdZRvEKQ and post an opinion. Is that an acceptable way? You get an untouched Firefox from Mozilla in a timely manner (I assume Mozilla aren't upversioning Firefox without good reason. Sometimes they push features but most of the times they're pushing security patches. The up-to-date Firefox should be in any distro's repo in a blink of an eye. It's kind of a paradox that Windows users can have a virgin and up-to-date Firefox and Linux users might not.) I'm not a fan of the video's producer at all. I'm only interested in whether his solution is viable and safe or not. The issue is Firefox. Heard that the cool kids hang out on Telegram. Fine with me. In which repo is it (Telegram)? In Xenial's or Neon's? Understand what I mean? Fact is software is scarce and/or deprecated (depending on the case) in both. I don't need a lot but I still cannnot build a minimal/fresh work environment based on those two alone. I admit though that the desktop works great. 5.8.7 and any plasma that reaches x.x.5 (at least) is okay. The handful of apps that are part of Neon's are great too (unparalleled in Linuxworld) and hopefully their number will grow. Aesthetics-wise it's of course the only DE that is likely to produce a wow effect in any user and certainly something I oftentimes show off with. Kind regards. I'll get Telegram. Instant messaging is like fastfood. It goes down the drainage even before it gets digested. But hey, maybe it's marginally useful as well. Face-to-face is much better because silence and thinking are distinguishable whatever that means to whomever.

Hummm @hear on /dev/stable we* vinnywright have firefox 55.0.2 ,,,but thats from Ubuntu xenial-updates.
@raddison , what do you mean by "The handful of apps that are part of Neon's" ,,,,? yes Neon is ,,,sparse on install (by design) ,, but anything you can have in Kubuntu ,,or Ubuntu can be had in Neon and anything you can install to ether one of those will install to it . VINNY |

Small change. I'm now on Firefox 57 with twice-a-day updates even thought it's still called "Nightly". As for the rest, I try not to overthink (or think) about philosophical issues |

KDE Neon installable image is one thing, KDE Neon software stack is another. I like the image is not bloated with software and it's exactly how it should be. I was referring to software availability in Neon's repository and not the installable image. I'd say the Neon software stack is still slim. And what's in Xenial is deprecated. Regards.

Good for you. Instead of waiting for the KDE Neon software stack to thicken, I'll get the lacking pieces from third parties. Debs, flatpacks, snaps, appimages, whatever binaries I need, building from source even. Let me be excused for the philosophical overtones but I did have a point though. If Neon would think Solus, things whould improve. Then again the objectives of the two are different. Solus is a curated rolling distro, while Neon a rolling software repository on top of a Debian spin. Yeah, Ubuntu is technically not a distro but a versatile derivative of Debian. Provided the Neon software stack will not grow much larger (hey, not even a fresh LibreOffice and and outdated Firefox? I understand it's not KDE specific software but iunno. I also understand those are coming from the Xenial repo) and one has no alternative than to fetch software from third parties, then Debian plus some HWE might have been a better choice for a base but that's just me rambling. Not that Debian has cutting-edge repos but since Xenial's is antiquated they might as well have chosen Debian. Neon is already great. We just jump in to show reaction so the makers can get a glimpse of a Neon user's thoughts. Which they will ignore, just hopefully not entirely. Also, I'm super lovely, hence I shall not post again until October - November. Worry and care not Edit: clarification concerning Debian now included in the comment right above plus omissions and several typos hopefully fixed. Edit 2: Bottom line: Xenial's repo and KDE Neon software repository don't compensate for each other's shortcomings regarding the relevant up-to-date software offering. That's what I think right there. I think I have overstayed my welcome so until October - November no more posts. I have an agreement with Harald I must keep. Edit: My decision not to post until October - November is absurd and now void of significance. My agreement with Harald stays in place though. I'm doing my best to comply with his expectations.
