KWin Crashing A lot

Mon Oct 02, 2017 4:33 am
My desktop effects invariably crash during each session. I always wind up having to run: nohup kwin --replace > /dev/null 2>&1 &

which I think then causes some glitching elsewhere. I just posted a thread about desktop icons glitching before this thread. I've tried switching between openGL 2 and 3. Doesn't seem to matter. Will take any steps to help debug any of these issues.

Which graphic card and driver are you using? Output of
Code: Select all
lspci -k|grep VGA -A2

NVIDIA Titan X Pascal using proprietary driver 384.90. Output:

05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 1b00 (rev a1)
Subsystem: NVIDIA Corporation Device 119a
Kernel driver in use: nvidia

It's still happening during each session. Just happened a moment ago and I had to restart it.

Seems like it is the GTX660. https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us tells me you need version 385.69

With any luck that'll sort your problems.

HTH :)
