Neon ISO changes

Tue Oct 03, 2017 6:27 am
Is there any reason why Neon ISO increased from 1.2GiB to 1.7GiB?

Also now it takes eternity to install language packs. Do I even need them if I use English language on my system? Is there a way to avoid installing them?

I do a lot of installs of Neon and now it has turned into much less convenient process. Honestly I start to worry that Neon becomes bloated with lots of default apps and many people who love it for being small and clean will have to look for alternatives.

Well, I haven't seen it has an issue. It install's very fast on a computer from 2007.
It isn't getting bloated. they're just expanding the operating system, if you think about it. It isn't a big change in size.

It's about the same size as most Ubuntu-based Linux distros, but whatever ;)

For one time install it is not a problem I guess, but if you do many installs it becomes less convenient.

True, but those distros come with lots of applications preinstalled (offices/email clients/browsers/flash plugins etc).

My point is if language packs are responsible for increased ISO size and installation time then maybe we don't need them by default?

The reason I created this post is to let people responsible for Neon know that before it was better and maybe gather opinions of the community on the matter.

Language packs do play a big part, for KDE Neon users who can't understand English.
I see your point, but what do you use KDE Neon for that makes you have to install in bulk?

If it's for servers, you'd be better of with openSuse (with plasma desktop).
