Im sorry im question after question since switching to neon. Iv finally got all my old problem sorted now i'm using the Dev-stable Neon but discovery 5.11.4 just crashes & crashes I even had to hard reset the computer once, it didnt before on the user editon.

I have searched on here and i see this mentioned a lot but i can't see an answer. Iv searched google and a lot of it is over my head.

I have seen some people say they had an update and it fixed it but i don't have any updates available. Do i need to update or downgrade it? replace it with something else (but what about the auto-updates)?

Hope someone can help as im pretty close to building a working desktop without problems (well i hope anyhow).

well i installed Muon, i dont know how to deal with the update auto notifier but i suppose it still notifies me i just have to run either a bash update or use Muon when the notification shows up. I wouldnt know where to start changing the notifier to use Muon, maybe someone can assist.

personally I don't like to let any GUI do my updates ,,,,,and definitely not Discover ,,,I just do not like it.

if you do your updates on the command line you get to see what is going to happen and chose to abort if you do not like what you see .

I prefer "apt-get" and do it like this ,,,,,,

this will ensure a fully updated system ,,,and contrary to popular belief dose NOT take you up a release version ,,,,,,of course on Neon that is not a worry any way as it stays with the Ubuntu-16.04 base.

yea cheers i do usually use bash anyhow , in fact i quite like running ucaresystem-core in the mornings. Its just that it bugs me when things don't quite work and i wondered if i could replace the discover update notifier with the muon one as it does seem to have the options for an automated update check. I even entertained the idea of uninstalling discover all together just to see if muons update notification might take over but it's that kind of thinking that has had my re-installing whole OS's before ^^

O and i do like the simplistic pic's and user reviews etc in some of the better package viewer/installer/updaters but i can live without.

I use Apt. I never open Discover.

Edit: Muon package manager also does a good job if you like it.

Yea i use apt 99% of the time too, but i'll tell you what blows new users (thats me even after a couple of years) minds is the different package managers.

So with my mind sufficiently scrambled with just debian base distros i have never even had the desire to even try another

Add wget, curl and more. My advise is to stay in the Debian - Ubuntu ecosystem. It's more than a handful on its own. There's extensive documentation though.

Edit: Relax, I used to feel the same. My mind used to be scrambled too. And I used to be overwhelmed with doubt. That feeling will go away. Just give it some time.

To my mind Discover makes sense to use:

1. When it's ready
2. If Neon would have their own base and their own curated app stack (kinda like Solus)
4. If the user doesn't want to know stuff beyond one-click-install/uninstall

@jackdinn If you like Plasma made by KDE, then Neon is the place to be. Just make sure you choose the right branch. I have tried lots of desktop environments but only Plasma produces that good feeling in me. I'm out.
