Hi Community,

after installing the patched kernel 4.13.0-26 (due to the current Bugs Specter and Meltdown), the neon system freezes when starting Virtualbox. The system must then be restarted via the on-off switch.

Other programs eg. Libreoffice, Kmail, etc. work correctly. Are this possibly the outdated program versions of Virtualbox guilty?

With the kernel in version 4.10.0-42, however, there are no problems with Virtualbox. How can I solve the problem?

Code: Select all

ii  virtualbox-dkms                                 5.0.40-dfsg-0ubuntu1.16.04.2                             all          x86 virtualization solution - kernel module sources for dkms

I had the same problem with Virtualbox. I had Virtualbox 5.0.40 installed with synaptic. Solution is to install Virtualbox 5.2.4 from the website.
I did this:
- back to kernel 4.10 and shutdown all VM's
- restart with kernel 4.13
- rename the directory "~/VirtualBox VMs" to "~/VirtualBox VMs keep"
- remove VirtualBox with synaptic
- download and install VirtualBox from website
- rename the directory "~/VirtualBox VMs keep" back to "~/VirtualBox VMs"

after that I had to update the extension pack and the guest-additions.

but I can imagine that downloading and installing the latest VirtualBox 5.2.4 from the website also will do the trick.
