Cairo-Dock icons rendering faulty

Fri Apr 06, 2018 4:00 pm
Hello!

I use Cairo-Dock as it can be available on all virtual desktops, unlike Plank. It was working fine until suddenly the icon rendering got faulty (see screenshot at https://imgur.com/4SG3X5f). I am using the Light Grey theme for the dock.

I suspect the compisiting has something to do with this strange behaviour. Because the problem started when the Compositor settings tool appeared after a reboot. I did nothing on the Compositor - just cancelled the app. And Cairo-Dock became messed up.

Any idea how to resolve this? Thanks in advance.

NOTE: I am sorry I couldn't attach the screenshot. Using the [img] tag resulted in an error message that the dimensions of the image couldn't be determined. I don't know what that meant. It's a 18Kb 809x113 size file.

it looks like Caïro is started twice.
You can try this:
Go to: Settings - Workspace - Startup and Shutdown - Desktop Session
In the "on login" section select the last option: "Start with an empty session"

I had a similar problem: Caïro was started automatically on login (added tot the 'autostart' ) but it was also started because it was running is the previous session. So it was running twice.

Thank you, mesoptafel, for the suggestion! It worked!

It felt strange that setting is there. Does that mean all programmes that are open in a session will be restored in the next? Is that why I sometimes found my Firefox open after login? And, lastly, is that why my system sometimes becomes sluggish as if it is suffering from insufficient memory (although I believe it has plenty of RAM)?

I have another question: I didn't know there was this session restore setting, so I have nothing to do with its setup. Then, why didn't Cairo-Dock show this double layer of icons from the very start of its use? I can remember it was okay for a few days and started to show that problem all of a sudden.
