I have bought a new PC and I want to set it up and install KDE Neon. Since Ubuntu 18.04 is just some days away (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BionicBeaver/ReleaseSchedule), I am not sure, if I should wait or just do it now.
KDE Neon will probably switch to Ubuntu 18.04, but I couldn't find a schedule for it. Will it be within days, or will it take weeks/months? Is it possible (or a good idea) to install it now and upgrade afterwards, or should I just wait for a release with Ubuntu 18.04 already as the core? I can wait for some days, since my old PC is still working, but I don't want to wait too long ![]() Thank you very much for your input! |

There is no schedule or timeline for Neon to go to 18.04, so the wait will likely be longer than you might be able to stand.

You can use separate partition for /home and install current version.
When Neon on 18.04 is out, you can easily reinstall and all your personal settings should stay intact. |

Yes, that was my first guess, but reinstall is a lot of work, making all necessary settings, installing all programms, etc.

If you leave your /home partition untouched then you will have all your original settings intact.. A new installation should not involve much work! |

Thats only the truth for most desktop programms, but for example for server software (I am a developer) like apache (vhost configs) mysql, install global node packages, etc. i will do the work twice. But thank you all for you anwsers. I will just install it now and upgrade later. |
