Hello. I am having problems with Kmail and akonadi. When I try to open Kmail it says that akonadi is not working. Anyone knows what can be happening? It is something of Kde Neon or is only happening in my computer? I tried formatting and reinstalling the hole system but nothing changed.

Did you get it figured out?

I think I have the same problem: viewtopic.php?f=309&t=152469&p=398791

Yes we had the same issue. I finally decided to take a look to Kubuntu 18 because I need Kmail, so I'm not using KDE neon anymore.

Might be a silly question. But did you actually install akonadi? It's not installed by default in Neon. Not sure what you need exactly, but akonadi-server & kdepim-runtime might be a start.

I know that I did.

Are you able to get Kmail working on your install?

Seems to work fine. Do you want me to list all the Akonadi bits that are installed?

Worth noting though, that I installed the full Kontact suite. Whether that brings in extra dependencies that are needed for kmail I don't know.

Got it working, I think.

Here's what I just did:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install mariadb-common mariadb-server akonadi-server akonadi-backend-mysql kdepim-runtime kontact kmail

This ran without error. When it finished, on starting Kmail, I got the akonadi not operation error from Kmail. Then I clicked the "details" button (to run the akonadi self-test), at which point I got a new error (didn't catch it, sorry) and Kmail crashed.

BUT I restarted it and kmail came up with no errors.

Unfortunately, exchange doesn't show up as one of the options for account type. I thought the newest versions of kdepim had exchange (EWS) support baked-in as of earlier this year.

Oh well.
