I suppose this question is more or less for developers considering making the “Synaptic Package Manger” a default program just like Discover! I think that Synaptic Package Manger is far more useful, and powerful than Discover, as it has the ability to download multiple programs simultaneously, especially when you’re doing a fresh install, and you have to download 27 or more programs like I usually have to do. I also realize that Synaptic can be downloaded in matter of seconds via Discover, so no problem there. How ever, I feel it should be a default program, which it can very very useful for newbies as they may not be familiar with that program.

Hi,
can't you right-click on a package file, click on "open with..." and then select Synaptic and check the box to open this file type by default with that app? That should take care of most of it. And if you happen to run Synaptic manually, well you just run it as usual instead of another package manager. Your post made me think of Synaptic. Kind of missing it. It doesn't come with openSUSE and I never bothered installing it, after I switched from Kubuntu. Cheers, Ben |

If I've read correctly I think the OP means "default" as in part of the KDE Neon install. However I don't think that synaptic as a Gnome-centric app quite fits in with the Neon ideal. Although I think Muon Package Manager, is a reasonable alternative.
