Hi,

I bought a second SSD hard drive and installed it in a Aver laptop that was already running windows and Kubuntu.
Apparently everything went fin during the installation but when I select the KDE Neon option on grub, I get the following message:

I reinstalled the system several times, from two different isos (both Neon), using guided and manual partitioning but I get the error every single time.

I used gnome-disks on the second hard drive and it seems to be OK. Also, I already tried update-grub from Kubuntu and nothing changed.

Any ideas?

I do not really know what to do with this info.
Should I have a boot loader at /dev/sdb?

Not many details to go on but I'd have a look at the BIOS to see whether the boot order matches and check that all hard drives are enabled.

Toad, could you recommend any tool to get more information about my issue?

I am trying to ensure that the hard drive is enabled during boot. This may be the issue because I replaced the optical drive with it.

Are you on a Thinkpad? Whatever, first go into your BIOS and have a gander there.

Otherwise there is no one perfect set of instructions as there a any number of variables: GPT vs MBR, BIOS vs UEFI, LVM, Raid and encryption to name but a few.

We really need some more infos on the machine, your setup and whatever you tweaked in order to give more insightful tips.

The machine is an Acer Aspire E5.
I just updated the BIOS to 1.32, but it still does not list the second hard drive and does not offer the Intel Virtualization option.
Now, lets try to cover the other items you mentioned:
- Kubuntu is working OK on the first hard drive, so I guess there are no issues with UEFI;
- I am not using LVM;
- No encription at all;
I do not know what info I could give you regarding GPT vs MBR and Raid.

I tested in a different machine and the hard drive is working fine. Also, both windows and Kubuntu are able to detect it after booting.
It seems that the BIOS is not detecting the hard drive and, therefore, grub fails to load the kernel.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how I could still use my SSD as a second hard drive to boost performance? I do not want to use it just as storage...

Seems like your laptop is not built to accommodate two hard disks

My recommendation would be to stick your SSD in the HDD slot and the original HD in the optical slot. That way you benefit from faster SDD access times for booting etc. and can use the original disk for data.
