Hi, I'm using KDE neon in virtualbox. There are many updates but the request for password doesn't pop up. So I can't update, close or shut down. Is there a way to reload the window to put the password? Thanks a lot, sorry if it has been answered but I couldn't find it

Try to use the terminal.
pkcon refresh sudo pkcon update -y Or, sudo apt update sudo apt full-upgrade |

You can try to "kill" the window with ctrl-alt-esc

Thank you. I'll try again tomorrow because today it asked for the password and I could update without a problem

This has been an ongoing issue for me since starting with KDE Neon 5.13. It seems to be about 80% of the time there is no password prompt and Discover hangs. I would guess that Discover needs some kind of error checking added so that it either retries launching the password prompt or errors out instead of just hanging while waiting for a password it never asked for.
I submitted it as as bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396261 if you'd like to go there and add a "me too" In the meantime, I've been using the Apt commands referred to above to update if it fails and killing the Discover process with ksysguard. |

Hi
Having same problem here. Sometimes the authorization pop up for Discover will not appear when attempting to do updates. This causes the Discover app to appear to freeze. Discover then prevents system logout, reboot and shutdown (there is a message about tasks need to be done). Discover can be minimized and other apps work but the only way to get Discover to work again is to hold down the power button until the PC shuts down. After start up, Discover authorization pop up works; I can input my password and do the updates. This occurs on two laptops at my house. Both are HP brand but different models. Both are running the latest KDE Neon. The problem does not occur on every update notice. |

I have the same problem. However, my work around is to Ctrl-Alt-F2 to open another session. I login as root and then do a restart. This avoids a hard shutdown and allows Debian (Stretch) do it's thing properly. Frustrating, but has given me NO problems to date.
Next time this happens I will try the Ctrl-Alt-ESC technique to see if I can get Discover to close the retry the update. Mitch |

I got this issue in the past. But I could always kill Discover from system monitor (Ksysguard). And then try again.
When you click updates in the system tray, it opens Discover and if you look at the files sizes, they all show 0 bytes. I think that Discover is doing a refresh in the background and if you click to install all updates before the refresh is complete, it will hang. Last month, I let it wait until I can see the correct file sizes and then click install all updates. I have not had the issue anymore. |

I think you could consider to use this commands, they have man pages which can be retrieved from a simple terminal command:
pkcon refresh (get new list of upgradable packages for KDE and Ubuntu. pkcon update (update packages for KDE and Ubuntu). pkcon repair (Fix broken dependencies). Hope it helps, |
