Hi,
I regularly have problems with freeze of the system (except the mouse cursor), the keyboard is no longer responding. Video example : https://kumo.ikilote.net/index.php/s/nc6DasSKcSzsCnM It's completely random, I can have nothing problems since 2~3 days and then there are 3 crashes almost immediately after starting KDE. Currently this more 5~6 per evening. After 3 freezes in 20 minutes today:
I have the impression that there is nothing specific about mistakes. It's still strange. I did not have its problems with KDE 4 (I used Debian 8 KDE during 2 years), but I realize that it is unstable that the distribution with KDE 5: Kubuntu, Debian KDE or KDE Neon. A problem of hardware compatibility with Plasma and nouveau?? I have not changed hardware between the two versions of KDE. For info, my computer: - Intel Core i5 4570 - 16 Go de RAM - nVidia GeForce 770 GTX - monitor 4K iiyama 40" |

It's not a problem on boot. I currently use my system. (No freeze since my previous message).
My computer is Linux only. Or, I misunderstood, is it a problem with grub ?

In /var/log/kern.log I have strange lines before freeze :

I come to think of it as maybe a hardware issue ... But how to test it? |

Hi,
I don't think is a GRUB problem. Take a look a t hese link related to the nouveau driver for the Nvidia Driver. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q ... OQWSeMXkEh https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2382623 Regards, |

Hi Z??fling,
Did you tried to search this: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 on linux random crashes I still thinking that the NVIDIA card is the problem. You may need a proprietary driver, as I could see in other Linux forums. You coud find the drivers in this page, in the manual driver search section you could download the Linux 32 or 64 bit driver. https://www.geforce.com/drivers Have you also tried running Memtest86 to see if memory is stable? https://www.memtest86.com/ You could also run the memtest from the live cd. No problem whit Memtest.
I'm found the applications of the hell for me : Firefox (Waterfox) & Firefox Nightly. With the browser launches, the probability of crash explodes, but it's very weird. No crash for almost a week, then tonight ... I'm at my 12th freeze & reboot. I would like to try the official nVidia drivers, but the last time I had to do a complete re-installation, plasma was totally unstable. Strange artifacts, black screens... Currently, I use Chromium. |
