Hello, all. I'm a very new convert from Windows to Linux. I started with Kubuntu KDE LTS just last week, but when I found out about KDE Neon I wanted to try it because of the fact it has the newest version of KDE Plasma, and I like Plasma VERY much!

So, I installed the latest KDE Neon, and quickly found out that it would not remember my settings for my dual monitor setup. I was really disappointed about that, so much so that I went back to Kubuntu KDE... But then when the newest version of Neon, neon-useredition-20180802-1036, came to my attention, I thought that I'd try it again to see if the issues with the monitor settings had been fixed. Sadly they had not. Of course I've done my share of reading, googling, and searching as much as I could for any answers to this problem on the net. I've tried about 10 different things that I found along the way, but none of them worked for me, on my system.

But just this morning I stumbled by accident across a method that works 100% for me, on my system, and I'm thinking it will work for anyone who has more than 1 monitor. Now please remember that I'm a very new user to Linux, and KDE, so I really don't understand why this works, I can just assure you that it does work!

Here's what happened. I was using Deja Dup on the Kubuntu installation, and I had made a backup just before installing Neon, in case I had to go back to Kubuntu again. So I install the new version of Neon this morning, and tried set the monitors the way I like them. Rebooted, and of course, Neon completely forgot those settings. But I made up my mind that I could get used to having to make the setting each time I rebooted or cold started. So, I installed a few programs, and then ran Deja Dup to restore the backup I had just prior to installing Neon. The restore from Deja Dup went well, and I rebooted.

I was AMAZED! My monitor settings had survived the reboot! I continued to test, doing reboots, cold starts, and suspends... all with the same result. I no longer had to set my Display settings every time. So, I was so happy about it, that I decided to do another test.

I completely wiped out KDE Neon, installed Kubuntu KDE again to just the bare bones, set my display settings, and did a Deja Dup backup. Then I wiped out Kubuntu and did another install of KDE Neon. I didn't even bother to do the Display settings this time, but instead just did a restore of the bare bones Kubuntu that I had just made.

And once again, it worked!! It carried over my dual monitor settings from Kubuntu, and somehow applied them to KDE Neon. I no longer have to go through setting them up every time I reboot or cold start.

I'm so happy about this, that I joined the forum here, and made this my first post. I'm thinking that there are many more people who use multiple displays with Neon who might find this post of benefit to them. Lot's of words here, but I wanted to completely explain how I came up with the solution, at least for me. And if it works for me, I'm thinking it will work for most anyone out there, if they are willing to go through the steps I took.

Now, maybe someone with much more experience than me could possibly track down exactly which file is getting transferred over that makes Neon remember the settings? That would be much easier and faster than having to do all the things I did to solve the issue.

Hope this helps someone out there in KDE land!!!

I tried that method a couple of days ago, and it did not work for me. It was one of about 10 different ways that I found when doing a search on the subject, that did not work for me. Maybe that works for others, but for me, on my system it did not.

This is the only way I have found that works for me at all, and it works 100% of the time.

But thanks for the link anyways!!
