@alideda,
I was able to install gnome-system-tools, and activate the vboxusers by going to root > usr > share > applications > users.desktop, and you can check the box for vboxusers. That eliminates needing to install lxqt or kuer if you just need to activate the usb port in Virtualbox. Thanks for that solution.

@cylverbak, I agree with alideda. It’s too risky an unnecessary to go through all this and risk a system breakdown!

You're welcome.

It can start the program that is located in the Neon-Kde system menu, it does not have an icon but can be assigned.

I agree with you about installing that deb package. It works but I don't know the long-term consequences. I've removed it.
Which is why I suggested the archwiki link. :)

I've installed gnome-system-tools. It shows up in my Application Menu > System > Users and Groups

I have tried this preview image
Code: Select all
d20be67d381bb19418d896dbf8df16d95df71c7192962da5ac86cdd4164716c8  neon-useredition-20180811-0957-amd64.iso

I especially like the scroll bar (Firefox). Looks way better than in User Edition based on Xenial. Everything seems to be working as it should. I like it and I'm happy with it. :) My only gripe is that the installer is still Ubiquity. :'( I never made it a secret that I like Calamares way better. :* Hopefully, we'll have it in User Edition Bionic pretty soon. ???

Don't hesitate. Get it, use it, provide us with meaningful feedback. Please remember to specify which image have you used. :)

Last but not least, I'm seizing the occasion to congratulate the entire Neon TM for this remarkable achievement. ;)

@Harald Thank you for your dedication and hard work. It hasn't gone unnoticed. ;)

Hey there! I'd really like to test out new bionic iso as my new live env. If I install now, will I be able to update when the final release is through? Or would you suggest me to reinstall once it's fully out?

I apologize but I do not understand how to test. Do you expect to install the version you offer and the programs that go with this installation each time? I realized when I installed the test version that the update would come and that it would test so I asked, but there was no answer. I thought that what you offer a new version is that it is for those who do not have the installed test version and they want to test. I personally are interested in the test how to update through the discovery, the programs that I use whether they are working or not and how they work. So far, there has been one update today in my version. :)

I've completed my fourth day using the User Edition ISO and it seems stable enough. I'm liking the 18.04 versions of my fav apps. The only problem encountered was with plasma-discover. Couldn't find some preferred apps however early this morning, I was pleasantly surprised that a pkcon install was up to the task... go figure!. As of a few minutes ago, Discover is still not finding some apps but other than that... I am really happy to finally be on 18.04!

I had filed a bug report for libinput and was happy to see that updates eventually appeared in 18.10 that resolved my issue. For now I'm okay with the evdev X11 driver solution... (at least until 18.04 catches up with those 18.10 fixes)

Well done JR and team!
A BIG thanks!

I have worked with several of the preliminary ISO images in Oracle Virtual Box v5.2.16 and the results are as follows:

Neon User Edition 20180809-0528 - installs and runs without errors
Neon Developers Edition Stable Branches (gitstable 20180811-0927) - installs and runs without errors
Neon Developers Edition Unstable Branches (gitunstable 20180812-2058) - has new Calamares installer, fails to install, unable to create or modify partition table on VBOX HARDDISK

I haven't had much time to test but I've installed this one ...
Code: Select all
d20be67d381bb19418d896dbf8df16d95df71c7192962da5ac86cdd4164716c8  neon-useredition-20180811-0957-amd64.iso

... which is build no. 50 (I've picked it because it generated good results on open QA) ... So, depending on which build you installed from, your experience might be different.
... on metal and it worked as expected (installed fine, everything seems to be working just like in the Xenial-based one)

But, unlike User Edition based on Xenial, it has 'kerneloops' installed by default. It might be an oversight. I'm very sensitive to a number of Ubuntu packages, namely:
'popularity-contest' - present in User Xenial and User Bionic > I would get rid of it.
'apport' - not present in either one > very cool.
'apport-neon' - (override package) - not present in User Xenial but present in User Bionic > probably cool, as it keeps 'apport' away (we've had a discussion previously about it and we're not entirely sure how 'apport-neon' works though.
'ubuntu-report' - not present in either one > very cool. :-*
'whoopsie' - not present in either > very cool. I think I recall correctly but I'll have to check again.
'kerneloops' - not present in User Xenial but present by default in User Bionic > I would get rid of it. I couldn't find their website (it's transitioning, they say ... or something like that ... so I've failed to find out how kernel oops-es (aka kernel panics) are reported.

Because I don't like those packages and they make me >:(

I have installed Neon User Edition in Vbox guest (Win7 host) and on physical host. Both installations went fine with one minor problem related to Settings->Multimedia. The problem (and workaround) is described at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=381894

PCManFM-QT from Discover shouldn't be recompiled for Neon Qt version? I am using bionic preview neon-user edition.

No, as it's not KDE software.

https://neon.kde.org/faq

KDE neon focuses on KDE software, most other software is not supported and you should not be surprised if you can not install it or it stops working at any point in time due to an update.

Installed here on a pretty standard i7-4790 PC with Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti

Had the problem that GRUB could not be installed on /dev/sda and the installer crashed. Which I could fix by running update-grub from another KDE neon install on another partition.
