KDE Neon is a software repo. We're not only testing packages from Neon CI but also the installable images. Hence it would be relevant to point out which build have you installed from. The images have associated timestamps so they can be tracked. Please do include the timestamp into your comments. Much appreciated.

I have not experienced any issues whilst testing bionic but I want to ask why is it still using kernel 4.15 which reached EOL. Is kernel 4.17 (stable) or 4.14 (Long Term) planned for release in kde Neon soon?

Installed this Bionic Preview ISO: neon dev unstable 20180808-07:15 on the day of its release.
Installed on bare metal machine:
Dell Inspiron 560
legacy GPU - nvidia340.107
Dual core Pentium E5500
Memory: 4 GB

Running everyday and fully updated. I have added software from various sources:
flatpak and snap. I haven't used either of these two methods before so in the interests of testing I took the plunge.
I followed Ubuntu tutorials and had no difficulties. Installed gimp from flatpak ran it and uninstalled it.
Installed gimp edge 2.10.2 from snapcraft ran it and am keeping it for now.
Installed thunderbird 60.0 from mozilla thunderbird tar bundle; extracted to folder in home. Running from there and have no problems to report.
I also installed software by ppa method:
smplayer from http://ppa.launchpad.net/rvm/smplayer/ubuntu
libreoffice 6 from http://ppa.launchpad.net/libreoffice/li ... 6-0/ubuntu

It has been 9 days since installation and I have had no crashes or freezes.

Thank you.

That is what I call proper feedback. @scrawfuela Well done! :)

Must have been this one https://build.neon.kde.org/view/iso/job ... 47/console
The timestamp is 20180808-0703, mind you. Not what the bootable media says ;D

Maybe we should KISS an refer to them by build number. It was build 147 bionic gitunstable, huh?

4.15 in Ubuntu is not the same as the 4.15 mainline kernel. The Ubuntu 4.15 kernel is LTS.

RE neon-useredition-20180816-0528-amd64.iso

Again... seems stable enough!
Whereas previously some apps were not being listed with plasma-discover that seems to be resolved
The phonon-backend-vlc is still faulty on the left+right sound tests but otherwise does play audio
(I however replaced this with gstreamer backend)
And as said before... It's nice to be with 18.04
(I look forward to see my Ubuntu 18.10 eventually rolling into neon...)

EDIT 1
forgot to mention that libflashplayer.so doesn't play SWF files
Firefox only wants to 'save' but not 'execute'
never had issues before...

EDIT 2
anyone else getting occasional odd behaviour on the system tray?
e.g. it happens that say I look at networks, then sometime later there's an update notification or i'm using KDE connect... eventually instead of being able to continue using the system tray as one would normally do, the system tray is kinda unresponsive and seems stuck on notifications even though there may not be any as such....

@abury Great feedback. Thanks. You've tried this one https://build.neon.kde.org/view/iso/job ... 51/console
PS: Good job on posting the timestamp.
Edit: Yep. build 51 bionic user has generated good results on Open Q&A.
Edit 2: Still no Calamares though. https://build.neon.kde.org/view/iso/job ... onsoleText

Ubuntu HWE kernel (and hence Neon) will likely be updated as usual just before the next Ubuntu Bionic point release in February 2018. Version yet to be decided.

Running the LTS Version, for 3 days. The only thing I can report is that formatting a partition using the "disk utility" caused the desktop to freeze. Tried again, same thing. Other than that all ran smoothly.

Just found another issue.
On 16.04 based system. I used to run "kdesudo systemsettings5" to open the program as root to set all my fonts/themes & make them uniform.
In my 18.04 based system, We now have pkexec. However when I run that, I get the following:
Code: Select all
~$ pkexec systemsettings5
QStandardPaths: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR not set, defaulting to '/tmp/runtime-root'
qt.qpa.screen: QXcbConnection: Could not connect to display
Could not connect to any X display.

Any Ideas anyone?

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/bio ... xec.1.html

The environment that PROGRAM will run it, will be set to a minimal known and safe
environment in order to avoid injecting code through LD_LIBRARY_PATH or similar
mechanisms. In addition the PKEXEC_UID environment variable is set to the user id of the
process invoking pkexec. As a result, pkexec will not allow you to run X11 applications as
another user since the $DISPLAY and $XAUTHORITY environment variables are not set. These
two variables will be retained if the org.freedesktop.policykit.exec.allow_gui annotation
on an action is set to a nonempty value; this is discouraged, though, and should only be
used for legacy programs.

Thanks for that acheronuk.
I can achieve my goal by running systemsettings5 in a root terminal. I don't like doing that, but it's a one off, & has achieved my objective.

Neon User Edition 20180809-0528 - installs and runs without errors
Neon Developers Edition Stable Branches (gitstable 20180811-0927) - installs and runs without errors
Neon Developers Edition Unstable Branches (gitunstable 20180812-2058) - has new Calamares installer, fails to install, unable to create or modify partition table on VBOX HARDDISK

I retested Neon Developers Edition Unstable Branches (gitunstable 20180819-2056) and am happy to report that it now installs and runs without errors. This was tested on Oracle Virtualbox version 5.2.18.
